Converse Swim Excels In Season Opening Meet

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA.  – The Converse University swim teams made quite the splash this weekend at the Emmanuel Fall Invitational.
 
On the men's side the Valkyries went 2-1 with wins over both Berry College and Montevallo. On the women's side the Valkyries finished the weekend 1-2 with a victory over Berry College and a narrow defeat to Montevallo.
 
Laureen Roussel was the highlight of the weekend for the women's swim team. The sophomore won both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events and helped the 200-yard Medley Relay team to a second place finish.
 
On the men's side Louis Milczynski played a key role in the Valkyries success throughout the weekend. The junior finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke event and third in the 100-yard butterfly event. As a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team, Milczynski swam leadoff and helped the Valkyries to a first place finish. As a member of the 200-yard medley relay team, the junior helped the Valkyries to a third place finish in the event.
 
Women's Notes:
  • The Women's 200-yard medley relay team (Milly Byrne, Laureen Roussel, Ansley Young, Alison Ludeman) clocked a time of 1:53.01 and finished second overall.
  • In the women's 1,000-yard free event, Julia Beebe finished fifth with a time of 11:28.95., while Kaitlin Williams placed seventh with a time of 12:00.92.
  • In the 200-yard free event, Katie Beebe finished fifth overall with a time of 2:03.89, Katie Mullen finished seventh overall with a time of 2:07.19, and Marie Durflinger finished 12th with a time of 2:25.09.
  • In the 100-yard backstroke event, Milly Byrne finished third overall with a time of 1:01.83. Ansley Young finished just a second behind Byrne in fourth place, and Sofiya Gobora finished seventh overall in the event.
  • The 100-yard breaststroke was another lucrative event for the Valkyries swim team. Roussel won the race with a time of 1:07.72, but her teammates Kate Hollingsworth and Ember Hill finished close behind in third and fourth place respectively.
  • In the 200-yard butterfly event, Mayle Iwanski finished fourth overall with a time of 2:21.42.
  • Katie Beebe finished fourth in the 50-yard free event, followed closely by Alison Ludeman in fifth place and Sofiya Gobora in seventh place.
  • Ludeman finished second overall in the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 55.03 seconds. Julia Beebe finished close behind with a fourth place finish and Katie Mullen finished fifth in the event.
  • In the 200-yard backstroke event the Valkyries swimmers of Milly Byrne, Ansley Young and Sofiya Gobora finished in a cluster at fifth, sixth, and seventh.
  • Roussell won the 200-yard breaststroke event, while Ember hill and Kate Hollingsworth both finished in fifth and sixth place respectively.
  • In the 500-yard free event, Julia Beebe finished with a time of 5:32.52, while Williams posted a ninth place finish in the event.
  • Young finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 1:02.20. Katie Beebe finished sixth in the event and Iwanski finished seventh overall.
  • In the 200-yard IM event, Mullen led the Valkyries with seventh place finish, followed by Hollingsworth and Roussel in ninth and 10th place.
  • The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ludeman, Byrne, Julia Beebe, and Katie Beebe finished third overall with a time of 1:43.58.
 
Men's Notes:
  • The men's 200-yard medley relay team (Joey Lilley, Tyler Leal, Louis Milczynski, Daniel Merzthal) finished third overall in the event with a time of 1:37.04.
  • In the men's 1,000 free event, Henry Stockton finished second overall with a time of 10:02.08, while Luigi Ballivian finished sixth with a time of 11:02.42. Henry Winstead finished ninth in the event for the Valkyries with a time of 11:25.73.
  • In the 200-yard freestyle event, Micah Lesley placed seventh with a time of 1:50.65, Ryan Hunt finished close behind in 8th place with a time of 1:51.19, and Keith Rogers finished 11th with a time of 1:55.66.
  • Joey Lilley finished second overall in the 100-yard backstroke event with a time of 54.37 seconds. Kirill Lyzhin finished ninth in the event with a time of 59.44 seconds, and Henry Winstead finished 11th overall in the event.
  • In the 100-yard breaststroke event, Milczynski finished second in the race with a time of 1:00.26. His teammate Tyler Leal finished close behind in third place with a time of 1:00.63. Manny Schlichtmann finished 11th overall with a time of 1:08.76 in the event.
  • In the 200-yard butterfly event, Alexander Kuznetsov finished sixth overall with a time of 1:59.97, Micah Lesly finished 10th overall and Davis Dial rounded out the event with a 12th place finish.
  • In the 50-yard free event Joey Lilley finished fourth overall with a time of 22.21 seconds. Daniel Merzthal finished close behind in sixth place and Keith Rogers finished seventh overall in the event.
  • Henry Stockton finished second in the 100-yard free event with a time of 48.37 seconds, Daniel Merzthal finished fifth in the event with a time of 48.71 seconds and Keith Rogers finished 10th in the event.
  • In the 200-yard backstroke, Lyzhin finished seventh overall with a time of 2:06.43, while Kuznetsov and Davis Dial finished in ninth and 11th place respectively.
  • Tyler Leal finished second in the 200-yard Breaststroke event with a time of 2:18.96. While Jaxon Tschikof and Schlichtmann finished in ninth and 11th place respectively.
  • Stockton finished second in the 500-yard free event with a time of 4:54.58. Finishing close behind, was Lesley in fifth place and Ballivian in ninth place for the Valkyries.
  • Milczynski posted a third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly event, but both Kuznetsov and Hunt finished close behind in fifth and eighth place respectively.
  • Tyler Leal, Davis Dial, and Ballivian finished the 200-yard IM in eighth, ninth and 10th place respectively.
  • The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Milczynski, Lilley, Merzthal, and Stockton won the event with a time of 1:26.47.
