GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Conference Carolinas office announced their monthly awards on Thursday afternoon, Converse University swimmer
Kayla Smith has been named Women's Swimming Freshman of the month.
The Valkyries went 2-1 this past month with wins against Emmanuel and King. Against Emmanuel, Smith won the 100 free event with a time of 52.48 seconds and finished second in the 50 fly event with a personal best time of 26.45 seconds. As the anchor leg of both the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay teams helped the Valkyries secure a pair of victories over the Lions.
Against the Lenoir-Rhyne, Smith won the 50 fly event with a personal best time of 26.37 seconds. As the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay team, Smith led the Valkyries to a first place finish with a time of 1:54.68. As the anchor leg of the 400 free relay team, Smith led the Valkyries to a second place finish with a time of 3:53.93.
Against King, Smith won the 50 free event with a time of 24.38 second and she won the 100 free event with a time of 53.35 seconds. As the anchor leg of the 200 free relay team, Smith led the Valkyries to a runner-up finish with a time of 1:41.94.
Smith and the rest of the Converse swim team are currently preparing for the Conference Carolinas Championships at the end of the month.
