SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University swim teams will make the short trip up to Gardner-Webb this Saturday to compete in their first swim meet of the 2026-2027 season.
The men's swim team is coming off a runner-up finish at the Conference Carolinas Championships from a season ago.
Henry Stockton was named Conference Carolinas Swimmer of the Year after he took home five gold medals at the Conference Championships.
Joining Stockton on the Conference Carolinas Preseason Swimmers to Watch list was
Joey Lilley and
Jay Owens. Lilley was part of three Conference Championship relay teams a season ago, while Owens helped one relay team to a Conference Championship. Owens was also named a Freshman of the Month last season.
The women's swim team is coming off a fifth place finish at the Conference Carolinas Championships from a season ago.
Kate Hollingsworth,
Maya Guevara and
Mayle Iwanski were all named Preseason Swimmers to watch by the Conference Carolinas office.
Both Guevara and Iwanski helped the Valkyries relay team finish third at the Conference Championships a season ago. Guevara also earned Conference Carolinas Swimmer of the Week honors last season.
This will be the first time in recent memory that the Valkyries will travel up to Gardner-Webb for a swim meet.
