GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Conference Carolinas office announced their weekly swim awards on Wednesday morning, Converse University freshman swimmer Kayla Smith was named Female Swimmer of the Week for her efforts in the pool this past week.
 
The Valkyries went 1-1 this past weekend with a loss to Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday evening and a 117.5-103.5 win over King on Saturday afternoon. Against the Bears, Smith won the 50 fly event with a personal best time of 26.37 seconds. As the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay team, Smith led the Valkyries to a first place finish with a time of 1:54.68. As the anchor leg of the 400 free relay team, Smith led the Valkyries to a second place finish with a time of 3:53.93.
 
Against King, Smith won the 50 free event with a time of 24.38 second and she won the 100 free event with a time of 53.35 seconds. As the anchor leg of the 200 free relay team, Smith led the Valkyries to a runner-up finish with a time of 1:41.94.
 
Smith and the rest of the Converse swim team will be back in action this weekend against Columbia College for Senior Day.
