CARY, N.C. – Converse University freshman standouts
Henry Stockton and
Alison Ludeman highlighted the Valkyries third day of the Conference Carolinas Championships.
After three days of competition the men's team is currently third in the standings, while the women's team remains in fourth place.
Stockton after just narrowly missing out on his first individual championship yesterday, came back and won the 200-yard freestyle event on the third day of competition. The freshman won the event with a time of 1:39.72, beating his next closest competitor by a full second.
On the women's side, Ludeman was just a few tenths of a second off from having a runner up finish. The freshman still finished third in the event with a time of 1:53.82. Joining Ludeman on the 200 free podium was Katie Beebe who finished sixth in the event, and her sister
Julia Beebe finished close behind in 8
th place.
The third day of competition started with the final of the women's 400 yard IM, Senior Milly Byrne finished fifth overall with a time of 4:41.95 in the competition. Katie Mullen finished 11
th overall in the event with a time of 4:58.09 and
Kate Hollingsworth finished 14
th with a time of 5:12.19.
In the men's 400 IM event,
Luigi Ballivian finished sixth in the event with a time of 4:20.54.
Davis Dial finished 10
th overall with a time of 4:25.86 and Kir Lyzhin finished 11
th overall with a time of 4:30.18.
In the women's 100 butterfly event,
Ansley Young finished fifth overall with a time of 57.95 seconds and
Mayle Iwanski finished 11
th overall with a time of 59.88 seconds. In the men's 100 butterfly event,
Louis Milczynski finished fifth with a time of 50.06 seconds and
Tyler Leal just missed the podium with a seventh place finish in the event.
Alexander Kuznetsov and
Ryan Hunt both finished in 10
th and 12
th place respectively in the event.
Joining Stockton in the men's 200 yard freestyle was
Keith Rogers and
Henry Winstead who finished the event in 12
th and 14
th place respectively.
In the women's 100 yard breast event,
Ember Hill finished sixth overall with a time of 1:08.41. Hollingsworth and Juli Ganim finished in 14
th and 15
th place in the same event on Friday evening. In the men's 100 yard breast event,
Tyler Leal finished ninth overall, followed by
Daniel Merzthal in in 11
th place, Jaxon Tshikof in 14
th place and
Manny Schlichtmann in 15
th place.
In the women's 100 back event, the Valkyries had a pair of podium finishes in the event. Byrne finished third overall with a time of 58.33 seconds and
Sofiya Gobora finished sixth overall with a time of 59.63 seconds. In the men's 100 back event,
Joey Lilley finished fourth with a time of 50.95 seconds.
The women's 400 yard medley relay team of Byrne, Hill, Young and Ludeman finished fourth overall with a time of 3:59.09. The men's relay team of Lilley, Leal, Milczynski and Stockton finished third overall with a time of 3:24.54 to close out the meet on Friday evening.
