BRISTOL, TENN. – Both of the Converse Men's and Women's swim teams had Top-5 finishes at the Conference Carolinas Championships this weekend. The men's team claimed their first runner-up finish in program history, while the women's team finished at least fifth for the third straight season.
Converse University sophomore swimmer
Henry Stockton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was named the men's Conference Carolinas Swimmer of the Year for his performance in the pool this week. Stockton took home gold and first place All-Conference honors in the 500 free, 1000 free and 1650 free events.
Joining Stockton on All-Conference teams was
Louis Milczynski who finished second in both the 50 free and 100 butterfly events and
Joey Lilley who finished third in the 100 backstroke event. The 200 free, 400 free and 200 medley relay teams all earned first team all-conference honors and the 800 free relay team earned third team all-conference honors.
On the women's side,
Alison Ludeman earned third team all-conference honors following a third place finish in the 200 free event. The Valkyries 200 free relay team earned third team all-conference honors following their performance in the pool.
Friday Night Recap:
In the men's 400 IM event freshman
Jay Owens finished fifth overall with a time of 4:11.84.
Gavin Gordy placed seventh overall with a time of 4:18.14 and
Luigi Ballivian finished eighth overall with a time of 4:22.77.
Davis Dial finished 11
th and
Henry Winstead finished 14
th to round out the Valkyries swimmers in the event.
In the women's 100 butterfly event,
Maya Guevara finished fifth overall with a time of 58.38 seconds and
Kayla Smith finished seventh overall with a time of 58.81 seconds.
In the men's 100 butterfly event,
Louis Milczynski finished second with a time of 49.43 seconds,
Alexander Kuznetsov finished fifth with a time of 51.60 seconds and
Tyler Leal finished seventh with a time of 52.08 seconds.
Alexander Nichols finished 10
th in the event with a time of 51.98 seconds and
Coleman Smith finished 14
th with a time of 56.32 seconds.
In the women's 200 free event,
Alison Ludeman finished third overall with a time of 1:55.88 and was the only Valkyrie to compete in the finals of the event.
In the men's 200 free event,
Daniel Merzthal finished ninth with a time of 1:45.59 and
Keith Rogers placed 11
th with a time of 1:48.19.
In the women's 100 yard breast event,
Ember Hill placed eighth overall with a time of 1:09.07 and
Juli Ganim finished 13
th with a time of 1:13.49.
In the men's 100 breast event,
Tyler Leal finished sixth with a time of 57.58 seconds and Chris Olcott finished 12
th with a time of 1:00.98.
In the 100 back event,
Mayle Iwanski finished 10
th with a time of 1:01.52 and
Liz Klanderman finished 15
th with a time of 1:06.55.
In the men's 100 back event,
Joey Lilley finished third overall with a time of 50.84 seconds and Nichols finished seventh with a time of 52.28 seconds.
In the 400 medley relay, the women's A team of Ludeman, Hill, Guevara and Smith finished fifth overall with a time of 4:04.29 while the men's team was disqualified.
Saturday Night Recap:
In the women's 1650 free event,
Valerie Perez finished seventh with a time of 18:51.38, while
Kaitlin Williams finished 10
th with a time of 19:21.12.
Henry Stockton won the 1650 free event with a time of 15:58.31,
Mason Reed finished fifth with a time of 16:36.73 and Kir Lyzhin finished ninth with a time of 17:28.00.
In the 200 back event, Iwanski finished 12
th overall with a time of 2:17.41 and Klanderman finished 14
th with a time of 2:23.47.
In the men's 200 back event, Nichols finished sixth overall with a time of 1:56.55 and
Jay Owens placed seventh with a time of 1:58.19.
Micah Lesley finished eighth with a time of 1:58.84 and Lyzhin finished 11
th with a time of 2:04.65.
In the women's 100 free event, Smith finished fifth with a time of 52.95 seconds and Ludeman finished eighth with a time of 53.29 seconds. Guevara placed 11
th overall in the event with a time of 53.98 seconds.
In the men's 100 free event, Milczynski finished fourth with a time of 45.72 seconds and Lilley finished seventh with a time of 46.30 seconds.
In the women's 200 breast event
Ember Hill finished seventh with a time of 2:31.80 and
Kate Hollingsworth finished 10
th with a time of 2:36.58.
In the men's 200 breast event
Tyler Leal placed seventh with a time of 2:10.38, Gordy finished 12
th with a time of 2:14.75 and Olcott finished 14
th with a time of 2:17.86.
In the 200 butterfly event
Mason Reed finished fifth overall with a time of 1:56.19 and Kuznetsov finished seventh with a time of 1:59.27.
Luigi Ballivian finished 10
th with a time of 2:02.22, Dial placed 12
th overall, followed by
Coleman Smith and Winstead.
In the women's 400 free relay event the Valkyries A team of Ludeman, Smith, Guevara and Ganim finished fifth overall with a time of 3:36.47. in the men's 400 free relay event the Valkyries A team of Milczynski, Merzthal, Lilley and Stockton won the event with a time of 3:02.57.
