GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Conference Carolinas office announced their monthly awards on Thursday afternoon, Converse University swimmer
Jay Owens has been named Men's Swimming Freshman of the month.
The Valkyries went 2-1 this past month with wins against Emmanuel and King. Against Emmanuel, Owens won the 50 back event with a personal best time of 23.70 seconds and finished first in the 100 back event with a time of 51.28 seconds. Owens finished second in the 100 IM event with a personal best time of 53.93 seconds. As the leadoff leg of the 200 medley relay team, Owens in the Valkyries finished first with a time of 1:33.15.
Against Lenoir-Rhyne, Owens finished third in the 200 back event with a time of 2:02.03. In the 200 IM event, Owens finished second with a time of 2:04.78 and as a member of the 200 medley relay team they finished second with a time 1:38.98.
Against King, Owens finished third in the 500 free event with a time of 4:57.48. The freshman then finished second in the 50 back event (24.82 seconds) and the 100 IM event (55.03 seconds).
Owens and the rest of the Converse swim team are currently preparing for the Conference Carolinas Championships at the end of the month.
