SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University cross country teams are traveling over the boarder to Georgia this weekend, as they compete in the Second Annual Young Harris Opener.

Women's Notes:

• The Women's Cross Country team is poised to repeat as Conference Carolinas Champions this season.
• Earlier this week the women's team was ranked 6^th in the latest USTFCCCA Southeast Region Poll. The Valkyries were the only Conference Carolinas school to appear in the rankings.
• First Team All-Conference performers Lauren Beatty (Winchester, Va.), Ashley Sosa (Gainesville, Ga.), and Ruth Spijker (Sint Pancras, The Netherlands) all return to lead a young core of Valkyries.
• Paisley Stepp (Hendersonville, N.C.) returns for her sophomore season, after picking up Championship experience from a season ago. The Tar Heel State native finished 26^th in the Conference Carolinas Championship meet.
• Angeline Kravitz (Tega Cay, S.C.) is a transfer from Columbia College and will look to make an immediate impact for the Valkyries this season.  
• Sara Aguiar Torre (Gijon, Spain), Mackenzie Crandell (Woodruff, S.C.), Hailey Jones (Moncks Corner, S.C.), and Peyton MacMillan (Fort Mill, S.C.) are all joining the Valkyries this season and will be looking to make a splash in their first collegiate season.

 
Men's Notes:  

• The Men's Cross Country Team is coming off its best finish ever at the Conference Carolinas Championship meet. The Valkyries placed fifth overall out of 14 teams in the conference.
• Luis Rios Brena (Gray Court, S.C.) returns for his senior season after claiming All-Conference accolades from a season ago.
• Joining Rios Brena on the Conference Carolinas Players to Watch list this season, is sophomore Alain Flores (Sopelana, Spain) and senior DreQuan Guyton (Spartanburg, S.C.).
• Spenser Kirby (Douglasville, Ga.) and Nathan Lucy (Markleysburg, Pa.) return for their senior season. Rios Brena, Guyton, Kirby and Lucy are the first four-year seniors in program history and will be looking to send the Valkyries out on a high note.
• Adding returner depth for the men's team is Zackery Carver (Anderson, S.C.), John Garcia (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Jaxon Wright (Mauldin, S.C.).
• Newcomers Reece Evans (Conway, S.C.), Hunter Heron (Summerville, S.C.), Alex Porter (Simpsonville, S.C.), Greyson Powell (Anderson, S.C.), Marti Ruiz Bareeda (Girona, Spain), Ander Vera Moleres (Pamplona, Spain) and Jacob Wren (Simpsonville, S.C.) will all be looking to make an impact for the Valkyries in their first collegiate season.
