ANDERSON, S.C. – The Converse University track & field team had another outstanding weekend at the Electric City Invitational at Anderson University.
The relay teams highlighted the weekend for the Valkyries as the men's 4x100 relay team and the women's 4x400 relay team both won their respective events.
Bella Martin set three school records this weekend in all three throwing events. The sophomore won the hammer throw event with a mark of 52.20 meters, which ranks 27
th nationally and fourth in the Southeast Region.
Phoebe Myers won the high jump event with a leap of 1.63 meters, while freshman
Kamille Cunningham matched the mark in the event and placed second overall.
Ashley Sosa won the College Division mile run event with a personal best time of 5:20.92.
Women's Notes:
- Bella Martin won the Hammer throw event and set a school record with a mark of 52.20 meters Martin also finished second in the Discus throw and set a program record with a mark of 39.16 meters. Martin also finished third in the Shot Put event, with a program record throw of 11.54 meters.
- Phoebe Myers won the high jump event with a leap of 1.63 meters. Myers finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles event with a time of 14.48 seconds. Myers' now ranks first in the conference and second in the region in the high jump event.
- The 4x400 relay team of Bethel, Okoduwa, Bracey, and Suber won the event with a time of 3:55.78 seconds. The relay team set the program record by three seconds on Saturday afternoon.
- The 4x100 relay team of Griffin, Cunningham, Bethel, and Okoduwa finished second with a time of 47.20 seconds.
- Kamille Cunningham finished second and set a personal best with a leap of 1.63 meters. Cunningham placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.34 seconds. Cunningham finished ninth and set a new personal best with a time of 25.53 seconds. The freshman now ranks first in the conference and second in the region in the high jump event.
- The Valkyries finished first and second in the College Division Mile Run, Ashley Sosa won the event with a personal best time of 5:20.92. Ruth Spijker placed second with a time of 5:20.98, and Anne van den Broek placed sixth in the event with a time of 5:37.24.
- In the Elite Mile run event, Lauren Beatty placed 14th with a time of 5:20.37 and Froukje Mons placed 16th with a personal best time of 5:24.57.
- Paisley Stepp finished second in the 3,000-meter steeple chase with a time of 12:42.45.
- In the 5,000 – meter event, van den Broek finished third with a time of 18:39.00, Spijker finished fifth and ran a personal best time of 18:44.81. Ashley Sosa finished sixth in the event with a time of 18:45.63.
- Eseose Okoduwa finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.85 seconds. Okoduwa, also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.51 seconds. Okoduwa finished third in the long jump event with a season best mark of 5.55 meters. Okoduwa's 200-meter time currently ranks third in the conference, fifth in the region, and set a new personal best. The junior now ranks sixth in the conference in the long jump event.
- Jermyra Bethel set a new school record and a personal best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.93 seconds. Her time ranks second in the conference and fifth in the Southeast Region.
- Quiana Suber placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.68 seconds. Suber's time ranks eighth in the conference.
- Latavia Bracey finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.74 seconds.
- Bayley Robinson finished seventh in the 800-meter race with a season best time of 2:23.30. Robinson's time currently ranks seventh in the conference.
- Janyia Pinckney placed seventh and set a new personal best in the triple jump event with a mark of 10.91 meters.
- Madison Griffin placed ninth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.58 seconds.
Men's Notes:
- The 4x100 meter relay team of Bomar, Davis, Glenn, and Gilmore won the event with a time of 41.22 seconds. The time also set a new school record in the event.
- Alexander Sosa finished runner-up in the College Division of the Mile run with a time of 4:25.10. Meanwhile, Luis Rios Brena finished 15th in the Elite Division of the Mile run.
- Devron Davis finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.54 seconds. Davis finished fourth in the 100-meter dash event with a time of 10.67 seconds. Davis' 200-meter dash time was a personal best.
- Isaac Gilmore placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.26 seconds.
- Dorian Bomar placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.84 seconds. Bomar placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.87 seconds. Bomar's 200-meter dash time was a personal best.
- Donald Medley placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles event with a time of 16.27 seconds.
- Gavin McFadden placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.85 seconds.
- Aubrey Hemphill set personal records in both the Hammer Throw and in the Javelin Throw events. In the Hammer Throw, Hemphill had a mark of 40.63 meters, and in the Javelin event he had a mark of 46.65 meters.
- Omarion Belton finished fifth in the long jump event with a mark of 6.49 meters and eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.95 meters.
- DreQuan Guyton finished 10th and ran season best 1:59.79 in the 800-meter event. Nathan Lucy finished close behind in 13th place, while Zackery Carver placed 17th with a season best time of 2:02.63.
- Ryan Glenn, Denard White, Damarion Goodine, Mason Watson, and Demarco Thomas all posted personal bests in both the 200 and 400-meter events.
