Davis Earns Second Consecutive Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, Johnson Named Freshman of the Year As Valkyries Finish Runner-Up

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Converse men's track and field team finished runner-up at the 2026 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championships Thursday through Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach. The Valkyries scored 109 points and finished runner-up to Mount Olive with 165.5 points.

For the second consecutive year, senior Devron Davis was named the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, the third athlete to be a multiple-time winner of the award. Freshman Neale Johnson was named the 2026 Outdoor Freshman of the Year.

The Valkyries had eight all-conference finishes, including six gold medals.

Meet Notes:
  • Davis won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.15 seconds, netting Converse 10 points. Junior Dorian Bomar finished fourth with a time of 10.34 seconds for five points.
  • Davis won the 200 meters as well with a time of 20.81 seconds, earning 10 more points. Bomar earned the bronze medal with a time of 21.07 seconds and freshman Xavier Dixon finished fifth for four points.
  • Senior Isaac Gilmore finished seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 48.64 seconds, earning the Valkyries two points.
  • Freshman Benjamin Notarangelo finished eighth in the 800 meters, earning Converse one point.
  • Notarangelo also finished fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:00.59, earning five points.
  • Sophomores Ander Vera Moleres and Alex Porter combined for five points in the 10K by finishing in fifth and eighth place, respectively.
  • Junior Nick Tibolla earned the gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles, netting 10 points with his time of 14.31 seconds.
  • Freshman Neale Johnson won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.06 seconds, earning 10 points. Junior Jacob Joe finished with a time of 55.68 in fourth place, earning five points.
  • Sophomore Marti Ruiz Barreda took home silver in the steeplechase with a time of 9:41.69, earning nine points.
  • The Valkyries' 4x100-meter relay team of Bomar, Davis, Dixon and Gilmore finished first with a time of 40.21, netting 10 points.
  • Johnson won the long jump with a mark of 7.37 meters. He earned 10 points for the Valkyries. Junior Omarion Belton finished seventh with a mark of 6.84 meters, earning two points.
  • Junior Aubrey Hemphill finished sixth in the javelin and seventh in the hammer throw, combining for five points. He hit a mark of 54.99 meters in the javelin and 47.95 in the hammer throw.
