Track & Field Set Records at Montreat Open and Weems Baskin Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Converse University men's and women's track & field teams set multiple records Friday and Saturday at the Montreat Open and Weems Baskin Invitational.

Froukje Mons set the tone for the weekend for the Converse track & field teams. The freshman won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:05.19, her time not only made her the fastest in the conference it made her the fastest freshman in the country in the event. Mons, personal record, and program record time currently ranks sixth in all of Division II.

Ashley Sosa and Lauren Beatty continued the success for the distances team on Friday night, as the duo finished first and second in the 10,000-meter event. Sosa finished with a time of 37:51.92 to take the event as Beatty finished close behind with a time of 37:52.79.

Meanwhile, down at the University of South Carolina the Valkyries were also finding success both on and off the track. Kamille Cunningham and Phoebe Myers both finished with a leap of 1.61 meters in the high jump. Both athletes are currently tied for first in Conference Carolinas for the high jump event.

On the men's side, Luis Rios Brena finished 3rd (32:46.41) and Alexander Sosa finished 4th (32:55.27) in the 10,000 meter event on Friday night at the Montreat Open.

At the University of South Carolina, Gavin McFadden finished 9th overall in the 100 meter dash. McFadden's qualifying time is what stuck out, however, as the junior clocked a 10.55 second 100-meter dash. McFadden's time currently ranks second in Conference Carolinas.

Elijah Hall finished ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.10 meters. The mark set a new personal record for the sophomore by three feet and also ranks second overall in Conference Carolinas.

Converse Track and Field is now ranked first in 10 events within the conference. The 10 events are the 200,400,800,1500,10k, 3k steeple, 100h, high jump,4x4.

Women's Notes:

At the Montreat Open on Friday, Froukje Mons finished 1st (11:05.19) and Kamille Dixon finished 4th (11:57.41) in the 3000-meter Steeplechase. Ashley Sosa finished 1st (37:51.92) and Lauren Beatty finished 2nd (37:52.79) in the 10000-meter setting a new school record.
On Friday at the University of South Carolina, Kamille Cunningham finished 4th and had a season-best of 1.61m in the High Jump. Phoebe Myers and Janyia Pinckney finished 5th (1.61m) and 14th (1.46m) respectively in the High Jump.
Ruth Spijker finished 6th and had a season-best of 4:44.04 and Anne van den Broek finished 9th and set a personal record of 4:49.79 in the 1500-meter Invite.
Mackenzie Whiteside finished 9th (11.05m) in the Triple Jump. Kamille Cunningham finished 13th (4.98m) in the Long Jump.
Mackenzie Weatherford finished 16th (36.67m) in the Hammer Throw.
On Saturday at the University of South Carolina, Ruth Spijker finished 3rd (2:18.26), Anne van den Broek finished 6th (2:19.27), and Bayley Robinson finished 16th (2:25.27) in the 800-meter.
Eseose Okoduwa finished 6th (11.90) in the 100-meter and 8th in the 200-meter dash (24.63).
Jermyra Bethel finished 8th and set a new personal record with a time of 57.30 in the 400-meter. Bethel also set a PR in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.60 seconds and finished 21st overall.
Phoebe Myers finished 11th (14.39) and D'asia Thomas finished 23rd (15.50) in the 100-meter Prelims.
Latavia Bracey finished 17th and set a new personal record with a time of 1:07.44 in the 400-meter Hurdles.
Bella Martin finished 17th (32.04m) in the Discus Throw.
Paisley Stepp finished 26th and set a new personal record with a time of 5:21.66 in the 1500m.
Quiana Suber finished 35th (26.66) in the 200-meter.

Men's Notes:

On Friday at the Montreat Open Luis Rios Brena finished 3rd (32:46.41) and Alexander Sosa finished 4th (32:55.27) in the 10000 Meter setting a new school record.
On Friday at the University of South Carolina, Elijah Hall finished 9th in the triple jump (14.10m) and 11th in the long jump (6.34m).
Aubrey Hemphill finished 20th setting a new personal record of 45.99m in the Javelin Throw. Hemphill finished 27th (33.93m) in the Hammer Throw.
Omarion Belton finished 16th (5.64m) in the Long Jump.
On Saturday at the University of South Carolina, McFadden finished 7th in prelims with a time of 10.55 seconds and placed ninth in the finals of the 100 meter dash.
In the 4x100 Relay Converse's team of Dorian Bomar, Denard White, Ryan Glenn, and Gavin Mcfadden finished 9th with a time of 42.34. In the 4x400 Relay, the team of Mason Watson, White, Damarion Goodine, and Demarco Thomas finished 16th with a time of 3:28.29.
Gilmore finished 16th (22.06) and Bomar finished 18th (22.07) in the 200-meter.
DreQuan Guyton finished 17th (2:00.37), Nathan Lucy finished 24th and set a season-best with a time of 2:02.57, and Spenser Kirby finished 28th setting a new personal record with a time of 2:03.89 in the 800-meter.
Zackery Carver finished 20th (4:24.41) and Aiden Ayala finished 28th (4:37.92) in the 1500-meter.
Isaac Gilmore finished 25th (50.37), Ryan Glenn 28th finished (51.72), and White finished 34th (52.88) in the 400-meter.
Hemphill finished 25th (11.82m) in the Shot Put.
Bomar finished 26th (10.77) in the 100-meter Prelims.
