SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University swim team fell to Lenoir-Rhyne 148-131 on Thursday night inside the Montgomery Student Center.
Freshmen
Maya Guevara and
Kayla Smith made a splash in their first collegiate meet for the Valkyries as they combined six first place finishes and a pair of second place finishes. Guevara finished with 585.5 points and Smith scored 568.5 points for the Valkyries. Guevara picked up four wins in the 100 free, 100 Fly, 50 Fly and was a member of the 200 Medley Relay Team win. Smith finished first in the 50 free event and second in the 50 fly event, while helping the 200 Medley Relay Team to a win and helped the 400 free relay team to a second place finish.
Alison Ludeman and
Ember Hill helped Guvara and Smith to a first place finish in the 200 medley relay event. Ludeman finished tied for second on the team with 568.5 points, while Hill tallied 422.5 points in the meet. Ludeman won the 200 free event with a time of 1:58.84 finishing a whole two seconds ahead of the competition.
In the 1,000 free event,
Kaitlin Williams and
Valerie Perez finished first and second in the 1,000 yard free event.
Mayle Iwanski finished third in the 100 back event, while Williams finished fifth and
Gabriella Pinheiro placed sixth.
Hill podiumed in the 100 breast event and
Kate Hollingsworth finished just off the podium with a fourth place finish in the 100 breast event.
Hannah Huante was the top finisher for the Valkyries in the 100 IM event with a third place finish.
Liz Klanderman placed fourth and Hill finished fifth in the 100 IM event.
Juli Ganim finished third in the 100 free event and
Marie Durflinger finished sixth in the event for the Valkyries. In the 50 back event, Ludeman and Iwanski finished third and fourth in the event while Pinheiro finished sixth. Hill and Hollingsworth finished second and third in the 50 breast event, and Pinheiro placed fifth in the event.
Perez finished third in the 500 free event and Williams finished just off the podium in fourth place in the same event. In the 200 IM event, Huante, Hollingsworth and Klanderman finished second, third and fourth respectively.
In the final event of the evening, the Converse B team consisting of Smith, Iwanski, Hollingsworth and Perez finished second in the 400 free relay. The Converse A relay team of Ludeman, Ganim, Huante and Williams finished just a second behind in third place in the event.
