SPARTANBURG, S.C. – It came down to the final event of the night between the women's swim teams of Converse and King, with the Tornado edging out the Valkyries 100-97 in the Montgomery Center pool.
 
Kayla Smith was the top performer in the pool for the Valkyries on Thursday evening. The freshman picked up a trio of wins during meet. 
Alison Ludeman finished second on the team with two wins and a second place finish and 
Kaitlin Williams finished third on the team with a pair second place finishes.
 
The meet got off to a great start for the Valkyries on Thursday evening. The Converse A relay team of 
Mayle Iwanski, 
Ember Hill, 
Maya Guevara and 
Juli Ganim finished first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:56.77. The Converse B relay team of 
Gabriella Pinheiro, 
Kate Hollingsworth, 
Liz Klanderman and 
Hannah Huante finished third with a time of 2:20.65.
 
In the 1000 free event, 
Kaitlin Williams finished second in the event with a season best time of 11:32.39. 
Valerie Perez finished third in the event with a time of 11:50.87. In the 200 free event, 
Alison Ludeman won with a time of 2:02.35, Huante finished fifth with and 
Kate Hollingsworth finished sixth in the event.
 
Smith won the 50 free event with a season best time of 24.89 seconds and 
Juli Ganim came in fourth for the Valkyries with a season best time of 27.74 seconds. 
Marie Durflinger finished sixth in the 50 free event with a season best time of 29.69 seconds.
 
Maya Guevara finished second in the 100 IM event with a time of 1:04.11, while Klanderman and Hill both posted season best times in the event. Williams finished second in the 200 fly event with a personal best time of 2:22.94 and Iwanski finished fourth in the event with a time of 2:24.10.
 
Smith won the 100 free event with a season best time of 54.73 seconds. Ganim finished fourth with a time of 1:00.60 and Durfling finished sixth in the event. In the 200 back event, Ludeman recorded a runner up finish with a personal best time of 2:19.25 and Pinheiro finished fifth in the event with a time of 2:37.59.
 
In the 500 free event, Perez finished second and Iwanski placed third to round out the podium for the Valkyries. In the 200 breast event, Hill finished second and posted a season best time of 2:37.44, while Hollingsworth and Klanderman finished in fourth and fifth respectively.
 
In the final event of the evening, the Valkyries 200 free relay A team (Ludeman, Smith, Huante and Guevara) won the event with a time of 1:41.91 seconds. The Valkyries B team (Perez, Williams, Pinheiro, Durflinger) just missed out on third place with a time of 1:50.98.
 
The Valkyries will have almost a month off before traveling to Kentucky to compete in the Speedo Mid-Season Invitational.
