Converse Women’s Swimming Picks Up First Wins of the Season

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Converse University women's swim team went 2-1 at the UNC Pembroke quad-meet on Saturday afternoon.
 
Converse defeated Barton by a final score of 186.00-69.00 and they defeated Chowan 196.00-57.00. The Valkyries lone blemish came against UNC Pembroke for the second week in a row, this weekend the Valkyries fell 207.00-67.00.
 
Individually, Alison Ludeman led the team with 596.0 points in the meet and Kayla Smith finished second on the team with 524.5 points. Maya Guevara finished third on the team with 504.5 points, followed by Ember Hill in fourth and Mayle Iwanski finished fifth on the team.
 
In the first race of the afternoon, the Converse A team made up of Ludeman, Hill, Guevara and Smith finished second in the 400 medley relay event. In the 400 IM event, Liz Klanderman finished fourth overall, Hannah Huante finished fifth and Kate Hollingsworth finished sixth.
 
In the 100 free event, Kayla Smith finished third overall with a time of 55.10 seconds. In the 50 back event, Iwanski, Ludeman and Gabriella Pinheiro finished in fourth, fifth and sixth. In the 50 breast event, Hill finished fourth overall with a time of 33.60 seconds, Hollingsworth finished seventh and Klanderman finished eighth.
 
In the 50 fly event, Iwanski finished fifth with a time of 28.87 seconds, Juli Ganim finished eighth and Pinheiro finished ninth in the event. Guevara finished third in the 200 free event, Valerie Perez finished sixth and Marie Durflinger finished eighth.
 
Kaitlin Williams finished fifth in the 100 back event with a time of 1:07.61 and Pinheiro finished seventh in the event. Hill finished fourth in the 100 breast event and Huante finished seventh in the race for the Valkyries.
 
In the 100 fly event, Smith finished fourth with a time of 1:02.97 and Hollingsworth finished close behind in fifth place. Williams rounded out the Valkyries swimmers in the event with a seventh place finish. Iwanski finished third in the 500 free event with a time of 5:42.50.
 
Guevara won the 200 IM event with a time of 2:20.96 and Klanderman finished third with a time of 2:28.74. Hill finished fourth overall in the event with a time of 2:30.26. Ludeman finished fourth in the 50 free event with a time of 25.09 seconds. Huante finished seventh in the event and Durflinger finished close behind in ninth place.
 
In the 1650 free event, Williams finished fifth overall with a time of 19:46.73 and Perez finished sixth with a time of 20:12.20. In the final event of the night the Converse A team made up of Ludeman, Guevara, Iwanski and Smith finished third in the 400 free relay event.
