Women’s Track and Field Wins Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships, Beatty Named Conference Carolinas Athlete of the Year

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Converse University women's track and field team won the 2024 Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday afternoon at the JDL Fast Track.

The women's team captured the title by edging out Mount Olive 167-166 on the final day of the track & field championships. Sophomore track athlete, Lauren Beatty (Winchester, Va.) was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Year for her performance on the track this weekend, while head coach Brandon Morton was named the Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year. The women's team captured six individual event championships over the two-day event.

The men's track & field team posted their highest ever finish at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships with a seventh place finish. The men's team accumulated 32 total points and finished ahead of Lees-McRae, Emmanuel, Barton and King.

Women's Notes:
  • Eseose Okoduwa won the 200-meter event with a time of 25.26 seconds and finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.67 seconds.
  • Okoduwa continued her success on the field, winning the long jump event with a leap of 5.59 meters.  
  • In the one mile run event, the Valkyries excelled as Lauren Beatty brought home the gold with a time of 5:13.58. Fellow Valkyries Ruth Spijker and Kamille Dixon followed close behind to sweep the podium with second and third place finishes respectively.
  • Lauren Beatty won her second event of the Championships in the 5,000 meter with a time of 17:46.23.
  • The Valkyries had their second podium sweep in the high jump event, when Phoebe Myers and Jordan Brown both finished with a leap of 1.61 meters. Freshman Kamille Cunningham finished third in the event.
  • Bella Martin won the weight throw event with a championship hurl of 16.02 meters.
  • Beatty continued her success on the track and captured a second place finish in the women's 3,000 meter event with a time of 10:25.33.
  • Myers placed second in the 60-meter hurdles event with a time of 8.91 seconds.
  • Ashley Sosa finished second in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 17:49.08. Sosa captured her second podium of the championships with a third place finish in the 3,000 meter event (10:26.18).
  • The Women's Distance Medley Relay team (DMR) finished third with a time of 13:04.83. The team was comprised of Anne van den Broek, Bayley Robinson, Paisley Stepp and Ruth Spijker.
  • Froukje Mons placed fourth in the women's 3,000-meter event with a time of 10:28.99. Mons also placed sixth in the 5,000 meter event with a time of 18:37.90.
  • Cunningham placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.76 seconds.
  • Anne Van Den Broek placed fifth in the one mile event with a time of 5:20.67 seconds.
  • In the 800-meter event, Bayley Robinson placed sixth with a time of 2:25.35, while Ruth Spijker and Paisley Stepp finished just outside the top-10 with 11th and 14th place finishes respectively.  
  • In the 400 meter event, Jermyra Bethel and Quiana Suber finished in seventh and eighth place respectively.
  • D'Asia Thomas finished sixth in the high jump event with a leap of 1.55 meters, while Cunningham placed 12th in the long jump event with a leap of 5.05 meters.
  • Dixon placed 12th in the 3,000-meter event with a time of 11:12.39 seconds.
  • Martin finished 12th overall in the shot put with a throw of 9.57 meters, while Mackenzie Weatherford finished 12th in the weight throw (12.11 meters).
Men's Notes:
  • Gavin McFadden finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.01 seconds.
  • In the 400-meter event, Ryan Glenn finished just off the podium with a fourth place finish and a time of 50.50 seconds.
  • The 4x400 relay team (Gilmore, Watson, White and Glenn) finished third overall with a time of 3:22.89.
  • The Distance Medley Relay team (Lucy, Thomas, Guyton and Flores) finished sixth with a time of 10:37.31.
  • In the 60-meter dash event, McFadden placed sixth overall with a time of 6.95, while his teammate Dorian Bomar finished one tenth behind at 6.96 seconds.
  • In the 200-meter final, Bomar finished eighth with a time of 22.85 seconds.
  • In the 400-meter finals, Isaac Gilmore placed sixth with a time of 50.57 seconds.
  • Alain Flores was the top finisher for the Valkyries in the one mile run with an eighth place finish (4:24.13). Flores finished 10th in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:01.57.
  • Luis Rios Brena finished 11th in the 3,000-meter event (8:50.12) and eighth in the 5,000 meter event with a time of 15:24.03.
  • In the men's long jump, Omarion Belton finished 15th overall while Elijah Hall placed 18th.
  • In the triple jump, Belton finished 11th with a leap of 13.10 meters.
  • In the throwing events, Aubrey Hemphill placed 8th overall (14.59m) in the weight throw and 14th overall (11.84m) in the shot put event.
