SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Competing on their home course for the third time this season, the Converse University cross country teams both had top-10 finishes at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on Saturday morning.
The men's cross country started off the morning by finishing seventh overall in the 10K event. The Valkyries finished just behind UNC Pembroke, but finished ahead of Lincoln Memorial, Emory & Henry, and Lees-McRae.
Alain Flores was the top runner for the Valkyries as the First Team All-Conference selection finished 28
th overall in the event.
On the women's side, the Valkyries finished 10
th overall in the 6K event. The Valkyries once again finished right behind UNC Pembroke, but finished ahead of North Georgia, Carson-Newman and Mars Hill. Senior First Team All-Conference selection
Ashley Sosa led the Valkyries in her final race and crossed the finish line in 30
th place.
Women's Notes:
- Sosa finished 30th overall with a time of 22:52.8, A few seconds behind was junior Lauren Beatty, who finished 34th overall. The Virginia native finished with a time of 23:03.6.
- Angel Kravitz finished third for the Valkyries on Saturday and placed 59th overall. The junior ran a time of 23:40.5 in the event.
- Paisley Stepp finished fourth on the team and 69th overall in the event. The sophomore finished with a time of 24:09.9 at the Regional. Rounding out the Valkyries top-five was freshman Peyton MacMillan who placed 119th overall. In her first regional appearance, MacMillan recorded a time of 26:32.7.
Men's Notes:
- Flores finished 28th overall and completed the 10K event with a total time of 31:25.5. Luis Rios Brena finished a few seconds behind in 39th place. Rios Brena clocked a total time of 31:56.2 in the event.
- Former Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month Ander Vera Moleres finished 43rd overall in his first regional appearance. The Freshman finished with a time of 32:09.2.
- Alex Porter finished fourth on the team with 63rd place finish, while Jaxon wright crossed the line in 74th place to round out the Valkyries top-five.
- DreQuan Guyton concluded his Converse career with an 83rd place finish in the regionals. Zackery Carver was the last Valkyrie to cross the line in 95th place.
