SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University swim team swept their home opener this morning against Chowan (125-57) and Mars Hill (109-89) inside the Montgomery Student Center.
The Valkyries got off to a bit of a slow start when they finished third in the opening 400-yard medley relay event. But
Julia Beebe won the first individual event of the meet when she swam an 11:18.85 in the 1,000-meter race. The sophomore finished 33 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor
.
In the 200-yard free event, senior
Kaitlin Brown won with a time of 2:08.48.
Lisbon Lopes,
Marie Durflinger and Genny Hunter finished in fifth, sixth and seventh place respectively.
Katherine Beebe won the 50-yard free event to give Converse their third event win of the morning.
Sarah Purinton placed fourth and
Erin Durflinger placed sixth in the event.
In the 400-yard IM event
Emily Byrne and
Katherine Mullen finished in third and fourth place respectively in the event.
Noelle Yorgason and
Lisbon Lopes finished in second and fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly event.
Julia Beebe picked up another event win in the 100-yard free event, the sophomore swam a 55.71 and finished two seconds ahead of Mars Hill.
Emily Byrne and
Kaitlin Brown went first and second in the 100-yard backstroke event.
Katherine Beebe won the 500-yard free event and
Sarah Purinton finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke event. In the final race of the day, the Converse top 400-yard relay team won the event by 10-seconds over there nearest opponent.
