Bundy, Hoffman and Quillen Tabbed Preseason Players to Watch; Valkyries Predicted Sixth in Preseason Poll

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas released its women's soccer preseason coaches' poll Wednesday morning, and the Converse University women's soccer team was selected to finish sixth.

Additionally, senior McKenzie Bundy, sophomore Kathryn Hoffman and junior Sam Quillen were tabbed as Players to Watch.

Bundy, a senior midfielder from Lancaster, South Carolina, appeared in all 20 games last season, starting 17 of them. She scored three goals and one assist for seven points.

Hoffman, a sophomore forward from Punta Gorda, Florida, also appeared in all 20 games last season, making 11 starts. She scored five goals and two assists for 12 points, the team's third-leading scorer. She is the Valkyries' leading returning scorer.

Quillen, a junior midfielder from Fountain Inn, South Carolina, appeared in all 20 games last season, starting in all but one of them. She also scored three goals and one assist for seven points.

Conference Carolinas also released its Preseason Poll, and the Valkyries ranked sixth, the second-highest ranked team from the northwest division.

Francis Marion topped the poll with 220 points and 10 first-place votes. Belmont Abbey finished second with 204 points and five first-place votes.

UNC Pembroke ranked third with 192 points, followed by Young Harris and Chowan with 166 and 145 points, respectively.

Converse finished just three points behind Chowan with 142 points. Just one point behind the Valkyries is Lees-McRae in seventh place.

North Greenville ranked eighth with 118 points. They are followed by Emmanuel in ninth with 115 points and one first-place vote.

Ferrum was the first team to not reach the 100-point threshold, ranking 10th with 99 points.

Mount Olive, Southern Wesleyan and Barton all garnered between 80 and 90 points with 88, 86 and 82, respectively.

King, Erskine and Shorter round out the poll.

The Valkyries kick off the season on Saturday, August 29, as they host the Newberry College Wolves at Weisiger Stadium. The game is set for 5 P.M.
