Valkyries’ 2025 Season Comes to A Close In Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals

FLORENCE, S.C. – Squaring off with the top-ranked Francis Marion Patriots (16-1, 12-1 Conference Carolinas) on the road for the second time this season, the No. 8 Converse University women's soccer team (7-10-3, 5-6-2 Conference Carolinas) fell 2-0 to the No.1 ranked team in Conference Carolinas by a final score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

This season marks the second consecutive season that the Valkyries have won a playoff game. This streak follows an eight-year drought of playoff wins from 2016 to 2023.

Francis Marion held a significant advantage in shots taken, attempting 26 shots while Converse had just four. The Patriots attempted 12 shots on goal while Converse had just two, both of which came inside of the final 10 minutes of the game.

The first score came just over 10 minutes into the game as Francis Marion redirected a cross into the goal to put themselves up 1-0 early.

A Patriot striker beat the Valkyries' defense in the 57th minute, getting around everyone and taking advantage of an open look.

Despite the loss, freshman goalkeeper Julia Salo recorded a new career high in saves with 10.
