McGowan Announces the Signing of Kosonen

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Converse University head golf coach Patti McGowan officially announced the signing of Minea Kosonen (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) on Wednesday afternoon.

"Minea is the complete student-athlete," McGowan said. "She is driven, disciplined, and deeply committed to making an impact both on and off the course. We're excited about the positive influence she'll bring to our team."

Kosonen played golf at Carolina Forest High School where she was named to the All-State team in 2025. Kosonen was also an All-Region selection in 2024 and 2025, and was the Panther Award winner in 2022. Kosonen finished second overall at the Lower State Championships in 2025 and played in the North-South All-Star Golf Cup matches. Kosonen helped her team win the region championship in 2022 and 2023, while also helping the team win the Lady Chief Invitational. Kosonen was also in the Hootie and the Blowfish All-Star Myrtle Beach Chapter and finished third in the Tommy Cuthbert All-Stars event. This past summer, Kosonen won a pair of events on the SCJGA tour.

Kosonen is originally from Finland and moved to the United States when she was five years old. Outside of golf, Kosonen was a member of National Honor Society of High School Scholars, Honor Roll and AP Student, National Beta Club, and First Tee Leadership Program.
