AUSTIN, Texas – Converse University senior softball athlete
Sydney Watson has been named to the College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American team for the second straight season.
Watson is the first athlete in Converse athletics history to earn the honor twice, last season Watson was a Second Team Academic All-American. Maria Belen Vendrell is the only other Valkyrie to earn Academic All-America accolades in her career.
A senior from Plant City, Florida, Watson is also the program's first two-time all-conference honoree and the program's first first-team honoree, which she earned at the conclusion of the regular season. She led the Valkyries offensively with a .420 batting average, seven doubles, 11 home runs, 49 RBIs, 19 runs scored and a stolen base. Her 11 long bombs this season broke her own program record set last season. Watson had the fifth multi-home-run game in program history when she went yard twice against Young Harris on April 5.
Joining Watson on the softball Academic All-American list is Emily Konz from Francis Marion.
