SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University golf team is back in action for the fourth time this spring and the eighth time this season; this week the Valkyries will be traveling to Travelers Rest, S.C., to compete in the Trailblazer Spring Invitational.
Last time out, the Valkyries won the Converse Spring Invite presented by Founders FCU with a two-day score of 629. Converse won the two-day event by 36 strokes over their next closest competitor, finishing ahead of North Greenville, King, Young Harris, Trevecca Nazarene, and Montreat.
Senior Lizzie Madden was named Conference Carolinas Women's Golfer of the Week for her performance on the golf course last time out. Madden won individualist medalist honors after carding a two-day score of 151. The Palmetto State native led the tournament in Par 3 scoring with a 2.63 average, while finishing second in the tournament in Par 4 scoring with a 4.35 average. The senior finished second on the team and fourth overall in the tournament with 19 par putts. Madden also led the tournament and the team with five birdie putts in the two day event.
Sophomore Ellie Lim was the second golfer to earn All-Tournament accolades as she finished inside the top-three last time out. Lim was the most consistent Valkyrie over the two day event, carding identical rounds of 79. Lim finished second on the team and tied for second overall in Par 3 scoring with an average of 3.25. Lim led the team and finished second overall with 22 par putts in the tournament.
Rounding out the top-10 for the Valkyries were
Elle Webber who finished seventh overall and
Brooke Haazer who finished ninth overall. Webber carded an 86 in the opening round, before shooting 10 strokes better on Tuesday afternoon with a 76. Haazer started the tournament with a 77 and finished with an 87 on day two of the event.
Kali Lantis rounded out the Valkyries starting five as she finished tied for 13
th overall in the event. Lantis tied for the tournament lead and the team lead in Par 5 scoring with a 5.00 average.
Playing this week as individuals will be Luci Ugalde and
Ally Osting.
The Valkyries will be competing against Ohio Dominican, Young Harris, Spartanburg Methodist, Glenville State, North Greenville, Mars Hill, Savannah State, Union, and Shorter. Live Stats for this week's tournament can be found on Leaderboard King.
