GREENVILLE, S.C.  – With a 6-0 record on the week across the team's three matches, junior Lais Martins earned Conference Carolinas Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning.

Martins becomes the first Valkyrie honored as Player of the Week under first-year head coach James Smith.

The Florianopolis, Brazil native posted a 6-0 record across singles and doubles play, including winning both against nationally-ranked Erskine.

Martins and doubles partner Khushi Kharb won 6-1 against No. 37 Erskine, 6-3 against West Virginia Wesleyan and 6-2 against Emory & Henry. The duo played all three matches at No. 1 singles.

Martins won her match in three sets at No. 3 singles against Teodora Stefanovic of Erskine. After dropping her only set of the week, Martins rallied and won 6-4 and 8-0 in a pro set. She needed a tiebreaker in both sets against West Virginia Wesleyan, winning those tiebreakers 9-7 and 7-2. The Valkyries junior had an easier time with her opponent from Emory & Henry, winning 6-1 in consecutive sets.

Next Up For Converse:
Martins and the Valkyries are back in action today, March 12, as they host Benedict College at the Rose. The match is set to begin at 2 P.M.
