Valkyries’ Season Draws to a Close in Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals

SUMTER, S.C. – With a 4-2 victory on Wednesday, the No. 6 Converse women's tennis team secured a 4-2 opening-round victory over the No. 7 Lees-McRae Bobcats to advance to Thursday's quarterfinal matchup with the No. 3 North Greenville Trailblazers. NGU won Thursday's match 4-2.

Opening Round: No. 6 Converse 4, No. 7 Lees-McRae 2

Seniors Khushi Kharb, the recently crowned Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, and Lais Martins secured a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Ellie Luppino and sophomore Tamanna Panwar won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles to secure the point.

Freshman Camille Lacombe won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and sophomore Romy Rueff won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to put Converse one point away from advancing.

Martins secured a 6-4 victory in consecutive sets at No. 3 singles to secure the match 4-2 for Converse.

Quarterfinals: No. 3 North Greenville 4, No. 6 Converse 2

North Greenville swept doubles play to open the match.

Kharb won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Rueff won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles for the Valkyires' only two points of the match. Lacombe was in a decisive third set at No. 5 singles when her match was suspended.

With the loss, the Valkyries' season has come to an end.
