Valkryies Take Care of Business in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Converse University track and field teams made their second trip to JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem this last weekend and returned home to the Hub City with several impressive performances to add to their 2024-25 resumes. 

Men's Notes:
  • The Valkyries occupied four of the eight spots in the 60 meter final with graduate student Zephaniah Cox Jr. and sophomore Dorian Bomar finishing in the top two spots with a 6.71 and a 6.73 respectively. That puts them second and third in Conference Carolinas this season in the event.
  • Sophomore Nick Tibolla won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.16, the third-fastest time by a Conference Carolinas athlete this season.
  • Senior Ryan Glenn and freshman Kyan Sapko finished in the top eight of the men's 400 meter. Glen placed third with a 51.12 and Sapko finished with a 51.65.
  • In the long jump, two Valkyries placed inside the top 10: sophomore Omarion Belton finished third with a distance of 6.96 and junior Kaden Gamble finished sixth with a distance of 6.87 meters.
  • Sophomore Alain Flores had the best finish of the day in Saturday's distance events with a fourth-place finish in the 3000 meter with a time of 8:26.71.
  • Freshman Alex Porter finished seventh in the 5000 meter with a time of 15:33.66.
  • Belton wrapped up the meet on Saturday with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 13.74 meters.

Women's Notes:
  • Senior Eseose Okoduwa finished second in the 60 meter with a time of 7.59 in the event final.
    • She also had the best finish in the 200 meter with a time of 25.81, finishing eighth.
  • Sophomore Jermyra Bethel finished fourth in the 400 meter with a time of 58.94.
  • Junior Bella Martin placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance fo 16.23 meters.
  • On Saturday, junior Lauren Beatty finished fourth among Division II athletes and first among Conference Carolinas athletes.
  • Sophomore Kamille Cunningham finished third in the high with a mark of 1.55 meters. Junior D'asia Thomas followed as the next-highest placing Valkyrie with a mark of 1.50 meters.
  • Senior Mackenzie Whiteside finished first among Conference Carolinas athletes in the triple jump with a distance of 10.92 meters.

On the blocks for the Valkyries:
The Valkyries are back at JDL Fast Track on Sunday, Feb. 23 and Monday, Feb. 24 as they compete in the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships.
