CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After a strong indoor season that saw the first indoor national champion in school and conference history, the Converse University track and field teams are picking up right where they left off with a strong showing at the 49er Classic. The Converse women had five athletes finish with a mark that sits atop the southeast region, including freshman
Grace Davis, who ranks third nationally in the 100-meter dash. The Converse men had two such finishes, including senior
Devron Davis, who sits atop the national leaderboard in the 200 meters.
Men's Notes:
- Junior Dorian Bomar led the way for the Valkyries in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.56, ranking him third in the southeast region. Senior Devron Davis finished with a time of 10.60, while sophomore Xavier Dixon finished with a 10.64. All three Valkyries rank inside the top 10 in the southeast region in the event.
- Davis won the 200 meters with a time of 20.84 seconds, ranking him first in the nation in the event.
- Dixon finished with a time of 21.39, putting him third in the region.
- Senior Isaac Gilmore finished the 400 meters with a time of 48.93, ranking him 14th in the southeast region.
- Freshman Benjamin Notarangelo led the way for the Valkyries in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.71.
- He also led the way in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:13.73.
- Sophomore Marti Ruiz Barreda finished the 5K with a time of 15:29.00, ranking him 20th in the southeast region.
- Sophomore Alex Porter finished first amongst the Valkyries in the 10K with a time of 32:36.86. Freshman James Hook followed closely after with a time of 33:43.55. Sophomore Ander Vera Moleres finished with a 33:48.33. All three rank inside the top 16 in the southeast region.
- Sophomore Dre'Kevan Thomas took eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.51. Junior Nick Tibolla ran a time of 14.63. They rank first and third in the event in the southeast region.
- Junior Jacob Joe ran a time of 56.40 in the 400-meter hurdles.
- Senior Zackery Carver ran a 10:26.15 in the steeplechase.
- The quartet of Bomar, Dixon, Gilmore and Davis ran a 39.98 in the 4x100 meter relay, ranking them first in the region.
- Freshman Neale Johnson hit a mark of 7.06 meters in the long jump. He's ranked fifth in the southeast region.
- Junior Aubrey Hemphill hit a mark of 46.24 meters in the hammer throw.
Women's Notes:
- Freshman Grace Davis continues her impressive first season as she ran a time of 11.48 in the 100-meter dash. She won the event and ranks third nationally in it among Division-II athletes. She ranks first in both the southeast region and Conference Carolinas.
- Fellow freshman Alayah Thomas ran a time of 12.07 in the event, ranking her seventh in the southeast region. Senior Madison Griffin is inside the region's top 25 in the event with a time of 12.34.
- Thomas was the top Valkyrie in the 200 meters with a time of 25.00. She is tied for the 10th-best time in the southeast region.
- Junior Jermyra Bethel currently ranks eighth in the southeast region in the 400 meters with a time of 56.68. She placed 10th at the meet.
- Freshman Evie De Roos was the team's top performer in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.04. She placed 22nd at the meet and is 10th in the southeast region in the event.
- De Roos was also the team's top performer in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:49.03, ranking her 13th in the region in the event.
- Freshman Angelica Panchelyuga finished the 3K in a time of 13:33.86.
- Sophomore Hailey Jones ran the 10K in a time of 43:13.73, good for 16th at the meet and 12th in the region.
- Sophomore Kennedy Wright and senior D'Asia Thomas finished the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.63 and 15.67, respectively. They rank 13th and 14th in the southeast region in the event.
- Wright and freshman Kyla Beasley were the team's top performers in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:05.77 and 1:06.25, respectively. They rank sixth and ninth in the southeast region.
- Junior Paisley Stepp finished the steeplechase with a time of 11:45.57, taking eighth at the meet. She ranks first in the southeast region in the event.
- The Valkyries quartet of Alayah Thomas, Wright, Beasley and Bethel finished the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:51.94, taking fifth at the meet and ranking them first in the southeast region.
- D'Asia Thomas hit a mark of 1.53 meters.
- Sophomore Asha Curry hit a mark of 10.53 meters in the shot put. She ranks 20th in the event in the southeast region.
- Sophomore Anna Katherine Evatt was the Valkyries' top performer in the discus with a mark of 37.85 meters, ranking her sixth in the region.
- Senior Bella Martin hit a mark of 51.04 meters in the hammer throw, taking home fifth at the meet and ranking her first in the region.
- Junior Kamille Cunningham accumulated 4,483 points in the heptathlon, taking home seventh place. She ranks first in the southeast region in the event.
