Softball Wraps Up Nonconference Play Against Carson-Newman

General Notes: This is the first meeting between the Valkyries and Eagles since the Covid-shortened 2020 season.

Converse Notes:

The Valkyries enter the game after snapping a nine-game losing streakg Saturday to the Chowan Hawks. Converse won game one of their Saturday doubleheader, 17-6 in six innings, one run short of the program record for single-game scoring.
Junior Riley Lingerfelt won her 10th game of the season in the front half of Saturday's twin bill. She is the first Converse pitcher to reach double-digit wins in a season in the program's history, dating back to the 2016 season.
Senior Madeline Modica recorded five hits in Saturday's split with Chowan. She drove in five runs and posted her first home run of the season in the first inning of the first game with the Hawks.
Five Valkyries are tied for the team's highest fielding percentage at 1.000. Of those, Lingerfelt has the most defensive chances with 12. Freshman Madison Sheadel has the highest fielding percentage with over 50 chances at .986. Her most chances of the year came in the team's second game against Lees-McRae where she went a perfect 11-11 in the field.

Carson-Newman Notes:

The Eagles are currently tied for third in the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 11-5 conference record. With a 21-15 record, Carson-Newman most recently split a doubleheader with Catawba, dropping game one 13-6 and winning game two 7-4. The Eagles have split three-of-their-last-four doubleheaders, only dropping both games to No. 12 Wingate.
Junior Hayden Dye leads the Eagles in batting average with a .422 average on the season, fourth in the top-heavy South Atlantic Conference. She is also third in RBIs and tied for third in home runs, 42 and 11 respectively. Her teammate, sophomore Macauley Bailey, is whom she's tied for third with in home runs.
Senior Emma Frost leads the Eagles in the circle with 97 innings pitched in 24 appearances. She has won 10 games and thrown eight complete games. She is fourth in the SAC with 109 strikeouts, just one behind Raechel Cutcher of Wingate who sits at 110 entering Monday.
With a .964 fielding percentage, Carson-Newman is seventh in the SAC in the category. That same fielding percentage in Conference Carolinas would have the Eagles tied for third with Belmont Abbey.
