Valkyries Conquer Crusaders Securing Spot in Semi-Finals

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University acrobatics and tumbling team defeated Belmont Abbey 256.475-254.725 in the Conference Carolinas Acrobatics and Tumbling Quarterfinals Round on Saturday evening inside Wheeler Center.

With the win the Valkyries advance to the Conference Carolinas Semifinals round for the fourth consecutive season. Converse will face-off against top seeded Limestone in the semi-finals round next weekend in Bristol, Tenn. The Valkyries and Saints will be meeting in the postseason for the fourth time in the past four seasons.  

Event 1 – Compulsory

Converse started the meet posting scores of 8.6, 9.7, 8.9, and 8.25 in the compulsory Acro, pyramid, toss, and tumbling heats. The Valkyries went into the next event down 35.45-35.50 to the Crusaders. 

Event 2 – Acro

Converse scored 9.05, 8.25, and 9.15 finishing with an event total of 26.45 securing the event win over Belmont Abbey 26.45-25.3. The Valkyries headed into the third event up 61.9-60.8 to the Crusaders.

Event 3 – Pyramid

The Valkyries scored the highest in heat three with a 9.65. In heats one and two the Valkyries scored 9.5 and 9.45 respectively.  With these scores, the Valkyries went into the toss event up 90.5-89.5.

Event 4 – Toss

The Valkyries scored 9.15, 8.45, and 8.4 ending the event 26-27. The Valkyries headed into the tumbling event down 116.5-116.65.

Event 5 – Tumbling

The Valkyries scored 8.8, 7.9, and 7.25 in the duo, trio, and quad pass respectively. Ayanna Manning's aerial pass, Ceanna Brown's 6 Element pass, and Krissa Gaines' Open pass had scores of 9.48, 8.98, and 9.38 respectively, helping Converse end the event with a total score of 51.775 compared to Belmont Abbey's 50.375. The Valkyries headed into the team event up 168.275-167.025.

Event 6 – Team

With a start value of 101.55 Belmont Abbey scored 87.70 to end the meet with an overall score of 254.725. Converse started their team event with a 102.05 start value, the Valkyries scored a total of 88.20 points to end the meet with an overall score of 256.475.

The Valkyries advance to the Conference Carolinas semifinals round on April 13th at King University.
