SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior golfer, Lizzie Madden (Blythewood, S.C.) shot a career best 71 in the second round of the Conference Carolinas Championships on Tuesday.
Madden shot up the leaderboard on Tuesday afternoon and is currently tied for second in the individual championship standings with North Greenville's Nicole Kramer. Both Madden and Kramer currently trail Mara Martinez who sit three strokes ahead in first place. However, through the first two rounds Madden is the only player in the field to have a round under par. The Palmetto State native finished the day with a trio of birdies over the 18-hole course.
Madden helped the team improve by two strokes on Tuesday, as the Valkyries finished with a team score of 320 and total two round score of 642. Converse is currently in fourth place but is just one stroke back of King (641) and two strokes back of Mount Olive (640). The Trojans made the biggest move in round two as they improved by 14 strokes in round two, however, all three teams are still chasing North Greenville who sits in first with a total score of 623.
Ellie Lim (Delaware, Ohio) finished second on the team, after she recorded a birdie on the final hole to card an 80. The freshman is currently tied for 14
th and has a total score of 161 through the opening two rounds. Fellow freshman,
Elle Webber (Huntsville, Ala.) finished third on the team with an 84 and is currently tied for 22
nd in the tournament standings.
Brooke Haazer (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) finished fourth on the team with a score of 85. The junior is still in the top-25 of the individual standings, as she is currently tied for 24
th overall in the event. Freshman
Kali Lantis (Spearfish, S.D.) rounded out the scoring for the Valkyries with an 87 in the second round and is currently ranked 35
th overall in the standings.
