Track & Field Competes At USC and Montreat This Weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -  The Converse University men's and women's track & field teams are headed to both the University of South Carolina and Montreat College this weekend. 

After a successful outing at the Charlotte Invite a week ago, the Valkyries distance team will be headed up to Montreat on Friday night to compete before joining the rest of the team on Saturday at the Weems Baskin Invitational in Columbia. 

Women's Notes: 

• Lauren Beatty broke the school record and is currently leading Conference Carolinas in the 5,000 meter event. The sophomore ran a time of 17:35.0 as she competed in the 5,000 meter invite last weekend in Charlotte. 

• Kamille Cunningham performed well on the field side, as the freshman leaped a Conference Carolinas best 1.60 meters in the high jump event. 

• The 4x800 relay team finished 4th overall last week and set a new school record with a time of 9:33.63. 

• Froukje Mons and Ashley Sosa also performed well for the Valkyries in the 5,000 meter event. In the 5,000 meter open, Mons finished first with a time of 18:05.21, while Sosa competed in the Invite with Beatty. Sosa clocked a personal best time of (17:43.08) in the 5,000 meter invite. 

• Continuing with the success on the track, Jermyra Bethel set a new personal record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.98 seconds, and Latavia Bracey ran a new personal best in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.57). Nashayla Warren also set a personal best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.51 seconds. 

• Bella Martin set personal records in both the Hammer throw (44.71 meters) and in the Discus with a throw of 37.84 meters. 

• Janyia Pickney set a new personal best in the Triple Jump with a leap of 10.77 meters, while D'Asia Thomas jumped a personal best 1.52 meters in the High Jump event.  

Men's Notes:

• The 4x400 relay team finished sixth overall and set a new school record with a time of 3:19.65. 

• Issac Gilmore broke the program record and set a new personal best in the 400 meter event with a time of 49.44 seconds. 

• Nathan Lucy recorded a pair of personal bests in the 1500 meter event (4:13.35) and in the 800 meter event (2:03.85). 

• Zackery Carver also set personal records in the 1500 meter event (4:18.52) and in the 800 meter event (2:05.97). 

• DreQuan Guyton recorded a new personal record in the 1500 meter event with a time of 4:17.64. Luis Rios Brena set a new personal record in the 5000 meter event (15:14.90), and Spencer Kirby set a personal record in the 3000 meter event with a time of 9:53.30.
