Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – After falling 10-0 in a run-rule shortened first game, the Converse University softball team (12-16, 1-1 Conference Carolinas) bounced back to defeat the North Greenville Crusaders (17-9, 1-1 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 7-0 in game two of the teams' first conference doubleheader.

Sophomore Victoria Dichio received the loss in the circle for game one. Junior Riley Lingerfelt earned the win in game two for a complete-game, seven-strikeout performance. She allowed just four hits and walked one batter.

Sophomore Ayellad Howard led the Valkyries in hits with four between both games, three of which came in game two. She also scored twice in the second game. Junior Sydney Watson and senior Madeline Modica each notched two hits in game two.

Game One: North Greenville 10, Converse 0 (6 Innings)

After the Crusaders struck for one in the top of the first Converse had three batters walk and knocked a single but were unable to score a run as the leadoff batter was caught stealing.

Two runs in the top of the second gave the Crusaders a 3-0 advantage. They were held scoreless in the third and fourth innings with just one runner reaching base in each inning.

Back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth inning gave North Greenville a 5-0 lead which they doubled in the top of the sixth as they took game one 10-0.

Game Two: Converse 7, North Greenville 0

Swapping with the Crusaders from the first game, Converse struck first as freshman Madison Davis knocked a two-out single through the right side, scoring Howard who reached via a leadoff double.

Still with two outs, sophomore AJ Albano also singled through the right side, scoring Modica and Davis and giving Converse a 3-0 lead heading into the second inning.

In the second inning, it was Watson's turn to knock in her first RBI of the afternoon with a single up the middle, scoring Howard who also singled earlier in the inning. Modica hit a two-out double, bringing home two more runs for Converse. Heading into the third frame, the Valkyries led 6-0.

Lingerfelt sat the side down in order in the third and allowed just one hit in the fourth, who Modica promptly caught stealing to end the inning.

Freshman Kiarra Thomas delivered in a pinch-hit opportunity with a single to the Crusaders' shortstop, beating out the throw to first and scoring sophomore Katelynn Tuxbury with two outs.
Lingerfelt allowed just one runner in each the fifth and sixth innings before letting two reach in the seventh inning. Both runners were left stranded as the Welcome-N.C. native struckout the final batter securing Converse's first Conference Carolinas victory of the season 7-0 over North Greenville.

Converse rounds out the eight-game homestand by hosting UNC Pembroke for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16. First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon.
