Women’s Tennis Opens Up Home Slate With Three Matches This Weekend

The Matchups:
Converse (3-4) vs USC Sumter (0-4), Lander (1-4) and Emory & Henry (2-0)
Series: Converse leads USC Sumter 5-0, Lander leads Converse 8-1
Last Meeting: Converse defeated USC Sumter 7-0, Feb. 17, 2023; Lander defeated Converse 5-2, March 18, 2023; First Meeting Against Emory & Henry

Converse Notes:
  • Converse enters the weekend after defeating Benedict 5-2 on Sat. March 24.
  • Split between three Valkyries, Converse has a 6-1 record at No. 2 singles.
  • Converse has a winning record at all doubles positions, posting the best record, 5-2, at No. 2 doubles.
  • Sophomore Laurel Maynor has won her last two singles matches, competing at No. 6 singles against Limestone and No. 5 singles against Benedict.

Lander Notes:
  • The Bearcats enter Saturday's matchup with a 1-4 record, their sole victory being a 6-1 decision over Mars Hill. They most recently competed on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in a nonconference matchup against Emmanuel. Lander lost 4-2.
  • Lander has won the doubles point twice this season, taking it against Mars Hill and Emmanuel.
  • Against Francis Marion, Maria Jose Zarza took the team's lone point at No. 2 singles.

USC Sumter Notes:
  • The Fire Ants are 0-4 this season. All four losses are to Division II competition.
  • Converse swept the Fire Ants in their first match of the season. The Valkyries won all three doubles courts, No. 3 doubles by default, and all six singles courts, No. 5 and 6 singles by default.

Emory & Henry Notes:
  • The Wasps enter Sunday's match on short rest as they compete on Friday at home against Lenoir-Rhyne and Saturday on the road against Newberry before finally making their way to Spartanburg.
  • Entering the weekend, Emory & Henry sports a 2-0 record, with both wins coming during the fall season.
  • Despite losing at No. 1 singles in both of their matches, the Wasps are dominating opponents, losing only one other singles court in their two matches, No. 5 singles against Milligan.
  • The Wasps are undefeated in dual-match doubles play this season.
