The Series
This will be the second all-time meeting between Converse and UVA-Wise, the Cavaliers won the only meeting 21-6 last season in Spartanburg.   
 
Converse Notes

• Converse is coming off one of their best seasons in recent memory. The Valkyries finished the 2023 season with an 8-10 record and a 4-5 record in Conference Carolinas action.
• Last season, the Valkyries qualified for the Conference Carolinas Championships for the first time in several seasons and had a first-round exit against North Greenville.
• As a team the Valkyries had 215 goals, 118 assists and boasted a .796 shots on goal percentage. Converse also recorded 298 ground balls, caused 178 turnovers and won 264 draw controls.
• Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Hailey Obenchain returns for her sophomore campaign. Last season, Obenchain finished with 33 goals, 51 assists, 84 points, 25 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers and 41 draw control wins.
• Gencie Coan and Karter Lauer also return for the Valkyries this season, Coan scored 20 goals, 15 assists, 35 points and had 59 draw control wins. Lauer finished her freshman season with 23 goals, 11 assists, 34 points and 70 draw control wins.
• Reagan Collins returns in goal for the Valkyries this season, the junior went 8-8 last season as the Valkyries primary goalie. In 930 minutes of game action, Collins registered 141 saves and posted a .402 save percentage.
• Coan, Obenchain and Samantha Sparks were all named to the Conference Carolinas Preseason Players to Watch list.

UVA Wise Notes

• UVA Wise is 0-1 overall this season and they are coming off a 17-11 loss to Lee on Saturday afternoon.
• Friday night will be the Cavaliers home opener, last season UVA Wise lost to Lee 12-11 in overtime in their home opener.
• UVA Wise is averaging 11.0 goals per game, 3.0 assists per game, 23.0 shots per game and 16.0 shots on goal per game.
• The Cavaliers also posted 25 ground balls, forced 8 turnovers and had 11 draw control wins in their home opener. UVA Wise also has a 78 percent clear percentage this season.
• The Cavaliers had eight different goal scorers in their first game, Mallory Trimble led UVA Wise with a hat trick and Logen Davis finished with a pair of goals to finish second on the team in scoring.
• Issie Brown and Grace Golatt each had a trio of draw control wins on Saturday afternoon. Addie Donalson and Olivia Toomer both split time in the goal against Lee on Saturday. Toomer picked up the loss after giving up 10 goals on 24 shots faced.
