Spartanburg, S.C. – The Converse University acrobatics and tumbling team defeated Mars Hill and Wingate in Friday's tri-meet. The Valkyries scored 261.020 points while the Lions captured 257.980 points and the Bulldogs fell to both teams with 240.615 points. Converse is 2-1 overall and 2-1 in conference standings, Mars Hill is 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference and Wingate is 1-2 overall and in conference standings.
Event 1 – Compulsory
The Valkyries won overall in the Compulsory heats making the total score going into the acro heats 37.00 points. The Lions going into acro scored 35.40 points and the Bulldogs scored 32.40 points.
Event 2 – Acro
The Valkyries scored a total of 25.20 points bringing their total to 62.20 points heading into the pyramid events. The Lions scored a total of 26.85 points bringing their total to 62.20 and the Bulldogs scored a total of 22.15 bringing their total to 54.55 points.
Event 3 – Pyramid
The Valkyries worked hard to score 26.60 points bringing their running total to 88.80 points heading into the toss events. The Lions scored 28.25 points bringing their running total to 90.50, the Bulldogs scored 26.70 bringing their running score to 81.25 points.
Event 4 – Toss
The Valkyries rebounded in the toss events scoring 9.30, 8.25, and 8.55 points bringing the toss total to 26.10 points and bringing their running score to 114.90 points. The Lions scored 8.90, 8.05, and 8.45 bringing their toss total to 25.40 and their running score to 115.90. The Bulldogs scored 8.60, 7.40, and 7.60 points bringing their toss total to 23.60 and their running score to 104.85.
Event 5 – Tumbling
The Valkyries won overall in the tumbling events scoring 8.45, 8.20, and 8.20 in the due, trio, and quad pass. Ayanna Manning's aerial pass, Krissa Gaines' Open pass, and Ceanna Brown's 6 Element pass received scores of 9.70, 9.20, and 9.30 points respectively. The Valkyries ended tumbling with a total score of 53.05 and a running total of 167.95 points. The Lions scored 8.65, 7.15, 7.60, 8.725, 8.45, and 8.925 points bringing their total score to 49.50 and a running score of 165.40 points. The Bulldogs scored 7.45, 8.15, 5.15, 7.925, 8.125, and 8.925 bringing their total score to 45.25 and their running score to 150.575 points.
Event 6 – Team
With a start value of 102.12, Converse scored a season-high 93.07 to win the meet with a final score of 261.020. Mars Hill started with a value of 100.53 and scored 92.58 points to finish the meet with 257.980 points overall. Wingate started with a value of 98.39 and scored 90.04 points to finish the meet with 240.615 points overall.
