Bomar, Cox and Okoduwa Hit NCAA Provisional Marks at Winston-Salem College Kick-off

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Starting their indoor season for the fourth consecutive year at the JDL Fast Track, the Converse University track & field teams made an impressive showing in their first meet of the 2024-25 indoor season. The defending indoor-champion Converse women had several impressive performances on both the track and in the field. The Converse men hit a pair of NCAA provisional marks.

Men's Notes:
  • Sophomore Dorian Bomar and freshman Zephaniah Cox both ran a 6.79 in the 60 meter finals. Bomar won the event and posted the fastest time of the season among Conference Carolinas athletes. Bomar and Cox both hit an NCAA provisional mark.
  • Senior Gavin McFadden placed fourth in the 60 meter final with a time of 6.85. It was the fifth-fastest time among Conference Carolinas runners.
  • Junior Devron Davis led the team in the 200 meter with a new personal best of 22.2. He finished third in the event and second among Division II runners. Bomar and McFadden followed in fourth and fifth (third and fourth among Division II runners) with times of 22.22 and 22.29 respectively. All three times are in the top five in Converse history.
  • Sophomore Alain Flores won the 5000 meter at the event with a time of 14:48:89. He is the first runner in Converse history to break the 15 minute barrier. Junior Jaxon Wright and freshman Alex Porter broke the 16 minute barrier for the first time.
  • Freshman Dre'Kevan Thomas placed second in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.21. He ran a time of 8.20 in the preliminaries. Sophomore Nick Tibolla ran a time of 8.32 in the preliminaries, finishing with the second-fastest time in those rounds. Thomas and Tibolla are the two fastest men in the event in Converse history.
  • Junior Kaden Gamble jumped a school-record 6.90 meters in the long jump.
Women's Notes:
  • Senior Eseose Okoduwa ran a personal best and school record of 7.59 in the 60 meter finals, placing second in the event and first among Division II student-athletes. This also hits an NCAA provisional mark in the event.
  • Sophomore Jermyra Bethel set a new indoor school record and personal best in the 400 meter with a time of 58.86.
  • Junior Bella Martin set a school record in both the shot put and weight throw. She threw 11.75 meters in the shot put and 16.63 in the weight throw, placing 10th and sixth respectively. She finished fourth among Division II throwers in the shot put and first against the same group in the weight throw.
  • The Valkyries also posted five other top-10 finishes in track events: Bethel finished fifth overall in the 200 meter (58.86, third among DII runners), freshman Triniti Muldrow-Green finished sixth in the 200 meter (1:01.31, fourth among DII runners), sophomore Kamille Cunningham finished seventh in both the preliminaries and finals of the 60 meter (7.87 in the finals, fourth among DII runners), graduate student Bayley Robinson finished sixth in the 800 meter (2:29.86, fourth among DII runners) and freshman Kennedy Wright finished 10th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.21, seventh among DII runners).
  • Converse also posted three other top-10 finishes in field events. In the high jump, Cunningham finished tied for sixth (1.54 meters, second among DII jumpers) and senior Janyia Pinckney finished tied for eighth. Senior Mackenzie Whiteside finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.04 meters.
