Cross Country Set To Host NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University cross country teams are back in action tomorrow morning at Milliken Research Park for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals.  
 
Location: Spartanburg, S.C. (Milliken Research Park)
Time: 11:15 a.m. (Women's 6k), 10:00 a.m. (Men's 10K)

Women's Notes:
  • The Valkyries are back in action for the first time since finishing Runner-Up at the Conference Carolinas Championships on October 26th.  
  • Ruth Spijker and Ashley Sosa both earned First Team All-Conference accolades, following their performance at the Championship event. This is the third consecutive season Spijker has been named to the First Team, and for Sosa this is her second time appearing on the First Team.
  • Angel Kravitz, Lauren Beatty, and Paisley Stepp all finished close behind and earned Second Team All-Conference recognition. For all three runners it was their first time appearing on the All-Conference Second Team.
  • Freshman Sara Aguiar Torre finished 30th overall with a time of 24:48.9, fellow freshman Peyton MacMillan finished 43rd, and Mackenzie Crandell came across the line in 47th.
  • Converse enters the meet ranked eighth in the Southeast Region Poll, the Valkyries are the second highest ranked Conference Carolinas team in the poll.  
  • The Valkyries will be looking to build off their sixth place finish from a season ago at the Southeast Regionals.   
 
Men's Notes:  
  • The Valkyries are back in action for the first time since finishing Runner-Up at the Conference Carolinas Championships on October 26th.
  • Head Coach Mark Rennix was named Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year, his first coach of the year award on the men's side. Last season, Rennix was named Conference Carolinas Women's Coach of the Year.
  • Alain Flores and Luis Rios Brena both earned First Team All-Conference honors following a great performance at the Championship event.
  • Ander Vera Moleres was named a Second Team All-Conference selection, and DreQuan Guyton was a Third Team All-Conference performer.
  • Alex Porter finished 31st overall in the event, followed by Zackery Carver and Jaxon Wright in 37th and 38th place respectively. Marti Ruiz Barreda finished 57th and Nathan Lucy rounded out the Valkyries performance with a 74th place finish.
  • The Valkyries are one of three cross country teams ranked in the Southeast Region Poll this week. Converse is currently ranked seventh and sitting right behind UNC Pembroke in sixth place.
  • Converse will be looking to build off their 14th place finish from a season ago at the Southeast Regionals.
