HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The Converse University cross country teams continued to find success on the running trails of USC Beaufort on Saturday morning, as the men's team won their second event of the season, and the women's team finished second overall in the event.
Junior
Lauren Beatty won her second race of the season on Saturday and shattered the school 5K record in the process. The Winchester native finished with a time of 18:08.5 breaking the previous school record by nearly 16 seconds.
The individual win by Beatty also helped the Valkyries secure a top-two team finish, as they beat out Georgia Southern, Fire Southeastern, and USC Aiken.
On the men's side the team picked up their second victory of the season and finished ahead of Winthrop, Fire Southeastern, Mount Olive and Newberry.
Alain Flores crossed the line first for the Valkyries and set a new personal best in the 8K with a time of 25:45.1. Flores' time is also the second fastest time in program history.
Women's Notes:
- Ruth Spijker the former Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week finished third overall in the event with a time of 18:32.9. Spijker's time is a new personal best in the 5K event and it is now the fifth fastest time in program history.
- Angel Kravitz finished third on the team with a 12th place finish overall, and clocked a time of 19:14.3. Paisley Stepp finished fourth on the team with a time of 19:20.5. Stepp placed 14th overall in the event.
- Sara Aguiar Torre finished 20th overall and posted a time of 19:38.5 in her first collegiate 5K event.
- Peyton MacMillan finished just outside the top-25 with a 27th place finish in the event, and Mackenzie Crandell finished close behind with a 31st place finish. Hailey Jones rounded out the Valkyries team with a 53rd place finish in the event.
Men's Notes:
- Luis Rios Brena the former Conference Carolinas Runner of the Week, finished third overall and second on the team on Saturday morning. The Palmetto State native clocked a time of 25:53.3 which ranks fifth all-time in program history.
- Reigning Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month Ander Vera Moleres finished fifth overall in the event with a time of 26:03.7.
- Senior DreQuan Guyton finished seventh overall with a time of 26:10.9. Guyton's time was a new personal best for the Spartanburg native.
- Zackery Carver finished fifth on the team and 10th overall in the event with a time of 26:33.6. Marti Ruiz Barreda finished 14th overall, followed by Alex Porter in 17th place, and Jaxon Wright in 20th place.
- Greyson Powell finished 26th overall in the event, Spenser Kirby placed 33rd overall, and Nathan Lucy finished 40th overall. Hunter Heron and Reece Evans rounded out the Valkyries team with a 52nd and 53rd place finish in the event.

- The Valkyrie Cross Country teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 26th at the Conference Carolinas Cross Country Championships. This year's championships will be held at Milliken Research Park.
