ANDERSON, S.C. – This past weekend the Converse University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Electric City Invitational, with the women's team finishing first overall and the men's team finished tied for 19
th.
With the win, the women's track and field team is now ranked 7
th in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings. This is the program's best regional ranking in team history.
Women's Notables:
- Eseose Okoduwa placed second in the 100-meter dash with a school record time of 11.97 seconds. Okoduwa was followed by Krishayla Boyd who posted a 12.24 in the event.
- In the 200-meter dash, Okoduwa and Boyd both placed in the top ten, running 24.87 and 25.35 respectively. Okoduwa's mark of 24.87 was also a school record time.
- Shanyia Grey placed third in the 400-meter dash with a school record time of 58.33.
- Ruth Spijker placed second in the 800-meter run at 2:13.17, which was another school record for the Valkyries and is leading the conference.
- Kamille Dixon also placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event, with another conference leading mark, running 11:33.62. Dixon followed that with another top five finish in the 5,000-meter run.
- In the 100-meter hurdles, Phoebe Myers and D'asia Thomas both posted top-10 finishes. Myers ran 14.41 which was good enough for third place and leading the conference. Thomas followed that up with a 15.0 to finish seventh.
- The Valkyries also had a 1-2 finish in the women's high jump event. Jordan Brown and Myers both cleared 1.60 meters (5'3") and are also ranked 1-2 in the conference.
- Bella Martin finished fourth in the hammer throw even with a new personal best of 43.65 meters (143'2").
Men's Notables:
- Gavin McFadden posted a top-10 finish in the 100 and 200-meter dash, running 10.67 and 21.82.
- The 4x100 meter relay team of Gerrard Donald, McFadden, Kaden Gamble and Ryan Glenn ran a school record with a 42.33.
- Elijah Hall and Kaden Gamble both posted top-10 marks in the long jump, jumping 6.71 meters (22'0.25") and 6.61 meters (21'8.25"). Hall's jump was a new school record.
- Hall also set a school record in the triple jump, finishing ninth with a jump of 13.10 meters (42'11.75").
- Cristobal Lopez also set school records in the hammer throw and javelin throw.
Next Up:
- The Valkyries will take a group to the USC Open in Columbia, S.C. on April 22nd to conclude their regular season prior to the Conference Carolinas Championship.
