SNOW HILL, N.C. – The Converse University women's golf team shot an opening round score of 315 on Sunday at the Cutter Creek Golf Club.
 
As a team the Valkyries finished second on the day in Par 4 scoring, third on the day in Par 3 scoring and fifth in Par 5 scoring. Converse finished third with 50 total pars in the opening round and they posted a quartet of birdies on the first day of competition.
 
Helena Noel (Tampa, Fla.) led the Valkyries with a top-10 finish on the first day of the championships. Noel finished with a 77 and a team best three birdies, the sophomore leads the tournament in Par 3 scoring (-1) and is second in the tournament in Par 4 scoring (+1). Noel's trio of birdies in the opening round, also ties her for the tournament lead with a pair of UNC Pembroke players.
 
Phai Inpan (Nakhonsawan, Thailand) shot a 78 in the opening round and is currently tied for 14^th, while sophomore Elizabeth Madden (Blythewood, S.C.) is currently tied for 17^th after shooting a 79. Madden leads the team in Par 5 scoring (E), while Inpan is second on the team in both Par 3 scoring (+1) and is tied with Madden in Par 4 scoring (+4). Inpan leads the team in total Pars with 13 on the day. Madden is second on the team in birdies (1) and is tied for second in total pars with 10 on the day.
 
Stina Voigt (Hamburg, Germany) is tied for 24 after shooting an 81 in the opening round and Brooke Haazer (Ontario, Canada) is currently 26^th overall after shooting an 82. Both Voigt and Haazer are currently shooting two-over par on Par 3 holes in the tournament. Haazer is tied for second on the team with 10 pars in the round and Voigt is third on the team with 9 pars in the opening round.

The Converse golf team will tee off at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning for round two of the Conference Carolinas Championships.
