Women’s Tennis Weekend Preview: Mount Olive and Francis Marion

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's tennis team will stay on the road this weekend with a trip down to Mount Olive and Francis Marion this weekend.
 
Dating back to the 2009 tennis season the Valkyries are 0-12 against the Trojans of Mount Olive. Last season the Trojans defeated Converse 6-1, with their Valkyries only win coming from Tonya Glogowski-Watson at the No.2 singles flight.
 
Converse and Francis Marion have met just once since the Valkyries became an NCAA institution back in 2008. Last season, the Patriots defeated Converse 5-2 in Spartanburg. The Valkyries won the doubles point to start the match but then Valentina Aparicio won the only singles match of the day at the No. 5 singles flight.
 
Converse Notes:
  • Converse is 3-9 overall this season and 0-2 in Conference Carolinas action. The Valkyries are coming off a 4-3 loss to Lees-McRae on Tuesday afternoon.  
  • Last time out the Valkyries won the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles flights. Converse then took a 3-0 lead with wins at the No.1 and No.2 singles flights but lost on the final four singles courts to give the Bobcats the win.   
  • Khushi Kharb leads the women's team with a 6-4 record in singles action, while Lais Martins and Marleen Prinz are both tied for second with three wins each.
  • The Valkyries No. 1 doubles team of Glogowski-Watson/Kharb are 9-3 overall this season and have won nine straight matchups. The Valkyries No. 2 pairing of Martins/Prinz is 3-4 overall on the season.
 
Mount Olive Notes:
  • Mount Olive is 6-9 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas play. The Trojans are 3-4 at home this season and they are the winners of three straight matches.
  • Last time out, the Trojans defeated Chowan 5-2. Mount Olive swept the doubles portion of the match to start out 1-0. The Trojans then clinched the match with wins at the No.1, No.2, No.3 and No.4 singles courts.
  •  Nele Weber leads the Trojans with a 7-4 record at the No. 4 singles flight, Oriana Izarra is second on the team with five wins at the No. 3 singles court and Lauar Servien is third on the team with three wins at the No.5 singles flight.
  • The top doubles tandem of Liza Voloshyna/Weber is 9-2 overall, while the No. 2 pairing of Izarra/Montserrat is second on the team with an 8-4 overall record.
 
Francis Marion Notes:
  • Francis Marion is 5-6 overall and 0-2 in Conference Carolinas play this season. The Patriots are 5-2 at home this season but have lost two straight matches.
  • Last time out the Patriots lost 4-3 to Barton College on Tuesday afternoon. Francis Marion picked up wins at the No.2, No.3 and No.6 singles courts against the Bulldogs.
  • Chelsea Seidewitz leads the team with an 8-1 record playing primarily at the No.2 singles court. Three other players are tied for second on the team with five wins each in singles competition.
  • The Patriots No.1 doubles team of Chelsea Seidewitz/Julie Martincova hold a 4-5 record on the season, while the No.2 doubles team of Gabriel Karatantcheva/Kim Venghaus is 2-5 overall on the season.
