SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University track and field programs will compete in the 49er Classic on Friday and Saturday, March 17 and 18, in their first meet of the 2023 outdoor season. All meet information can be found here.
 
Converse Notes:

• This will be the first meet of the outdoor season for the Valkyries.
• The women's team was picked 3^rd in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll while the men were picked 10^th in just their second year.
• Phoebe Myers, Lauren Beatty, Ruth Spijker, Gavin McFadden, Gerrard Donald and Isaac Gilmore were all picked as Athletes to Watch for Conference Carolinas.
• Converse finished fourth overall at the 2022 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships with the 4x100-meter relay team placing 3^rd, Myers placing 3^rd in the 100-meter hurdles at 11.45 seconds, Bayley Robinson finishing 3^rd in the 800-meter dash at 2:23.61, Jordan Brown placing 2^nd in high jump at a mark of 1.62 meters and Ashley Sosa breaking the school record in the 10,000-meter run with a 3^rd place time of 38:45.61.
• McFadden was named the 2022 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Freshman of the Year after being named to the 100-meter All-Conference Carolinas Second Team and 200-meter All-Conference Carolinas Third Team. At the conclusion of the 2022-23 indoor season, McFadden was named to the 60-meter dash All-Conference Carolinas Second Team with a personal record time of 6.89 seconds.
