Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Converse University softball team split with Claflin University on Wednesday afternoon, dropping game one 4-2 but winning game two 11-8. With the win, #Team8 breaks the school record for wins in a season since the program was started.
Records: Converse (8-10), Claflin (6-6)
Game 1 Notes:
- Bottom 2 – As a Lady Panther was caught stealing second, the runner on third scored to put Claflin on the board.
- Bottom 3 – Claflin got their second run of the game as an error was committed by the Converse third baseman.
- Top 4 – Karleigh Crabill walked and stole second before scoring as AJ Albano singled up the middle.
- Bottom 4 – Another error by the Valkyries allowed for Claflin to put their third run up on the board. It was followed by their fourth run of the game as a single was hit to center field.
- Top 5 – Chesney Miles scored Converse's second and final run on an error by the Claflin third baseman.
Crabill and Miles each scored a run for the Valkyries while Albano led in hits (2), RBIs (1) and stolen bases (3).
Rylee Summers pitched 4 innings and
Serrah Ballard pitched 2 innings with one strikeout.
Game 2 Notes:
- Top 1 – Ayellad Howard started game two off with a walk and then was able to steal second on a passed ball. They advanced to third as Makenna Hill bunted into a single. Hill then stole second and Albano got on base by an error from the Lady Panthers pitcher. Ballard then reached first on another error as both Howard and Hill scored. Albano scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch followed by Miles singling. Ballard scored as Abby Bardonaro reached on an error and Miles was brought home for the fifth run of the inning as Kaitlynn Tuxbury grounded out to third base.
- Top 2 – Howard scored the sixth run as Hill hit a single. She scored on a passed ball to make it 7-0 in the Valkyries favor.
- Top 3 – Bardonaro singled and advanced to second as Tuxbury also singled. Faith Hauser then hit a single which pushed Bardonaro to third and Tuxbury to second. Bardonaro then scored as Howard had a sacrifice bunt and Tuxbury scored as Hill grounded out to the second baseman.
- Bottom 3 – C. Cooper tripled to right field and then scored as B. Howard grounded out.
- Top 4 – Kayla Rocha put the 10th run on the board for Converse as Maggie Griffis grounded out.
- Bottom 4 – A. Beavers scored for the Lady Panthers for a 10-2 game still in Converse's favor.
- Top 5 – Tuxbury got on base as she was hit by a pitch, stole second and third and scored as Hailie Amrhein singled through the left side.
- Bottom 5 – Claflin got two more runs on the board before Summers was put in to pitch for Ballard. Two more runs were then scored to make it 11-6.
- Bottom 6 – The Lady Panthers were able to score two more runs, but were not successful in their efforts to take the lead from the Valkyries.
Howard, Hill and Bardonaro each had two runs, with Hill and Bardonaro having two hits. Bardonaro led the team in RBIs with two while four Valkyries had two stolen bases each. Ballard pitched four innings with four strikeouts while Summers pitched a total of three innings.
Next Up:
The Valkyries will continue their road series with a trip to Johnson C. Smith on Saturday afternoon. Games are slated for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
