Softball Pushes Wednesday’s Game Times Back Against Belmont Abbey

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Due to inclement weather in the area on Tuesday evening, the Converse softball team has pushed its Wednesday game times back against Belmont Abbey to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to give the field time to dry.

The Series
These games will be the 11th and 12th games played between the Valkyries and the Crusaders. Belmont Abbey holds a 9-1 record over Converse with their last pair of wins coming last season by scores of 13-4 and 2-1. Converse last defeated Belmont Abbey in 2018 4-1.
 
Converse Notes:
  • The Valkyries are 1-35 overall and 0-12 in Conference Carolinas play after dropping four games this past weekend. On Friday, Converse was beaten by Emmanuel 8-0 and 11-0. On Saturday, the team returned to South Carolina to play at Erskine. The Flying Fleet won by scores of 19-0 and 4-3 (8 innings).
  • Faith Hauser leads Converse with a .238 batting average, 63 at-bats, seven runs, 15 hits, four doubles, and six RBI's. Brooklyn McElrath follows with a .231 batting average, 104 at-bats, 11 runs, 24 hits, five doubles, and nine RBI's.
  • Maggie Griffis leads the team with 12 RBI's and is tied with Emily Ingle, Serrah Ballard, and Ryan Finazzo with one home run each.
  • In the circle, Ballard leads with 80.1 innings pitched and 24 strikeouts. Belle Roper follows with 22 innings pitched and 11 strikeouts.
Belmont Abbey Notes:
  • The Crusaders are 18-9 overall and 5-5 in Conference Carolinas action after most recently dropping two games to North Greenville on Saturday afternoon. North Greenville won by scores of 2-0 and 9-8 (8 innings).
  • Payton Whitley leads the team with a .400 batting average, 75 at-bats, 28 runs, 30 hits, five doubles, six home runs, and 30 RBI's. She is followed by Hallie Mele with a .337 batting average, 89 at-bats, 28 runs, 30 hits, four doubles, three home runs, and 15 RBI's.
  • Abby Craver leads Belmont Abbey in the circle, pitching 94 innings with 77 strikeouts. Alannah Browne follows, pitching 56.1 innings with 35 strikeouts.
