SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's tennis team will make its return to the Palmetto Tennis Center this week to compete in the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Championships.
 
Converse eked into the tournament as the No. 8 seed in the field and will battle Barton for the second time this season. Last season, the Valkyries knocked off Barton 4-3 in the opening round in the tournament to advance to the Quarterfinals round against Belmont Abbey. The win over the Bulldogs last season, marked the first conference tournament win for the Valkyries in program history.
 
This will be the second matchup this season between Converse and Barton, the two teams met in Wilson, N.C. back on March 26^th. The Bulldogs got the better of the Valkyries with a 5-2 win at the Bulldogs Tennis Complex. The Valkyries lone wins came in singles action, with Maria Belen Vendrell winning in straight sets at the No. 1 singles flight and Luiza Estrada winning in straight sets at the No. 4 singles flight.
 
Vendrell and Tonya Glogowski-Watson have led the team in singles action this season. Vendrell is 7-10 overall at the No. 1 singles court and has a 5-6 record in conference play this year. Glogowski-Watson is 8-10 overall at the No. 2 singles court and holds a 6-5 record in conference action this season. Luiza Estrada has six wins in singles action, splitting her time at both the No. 3 and No. 4 singles flights this season. Valentina Aparicio has five wins this season and has played matches at the No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles courts this year.
 
If the Valkyries are able to pull off the upset in the opening round, they will move on to the Quarterfinals round on Friday afternoon. In the Quarterfinals round the Valkyries would face Emmanuel.
