The Converse University women's lacrosse team will be honoring four seniors tomorrow with a senior day recognition ceremony. The recognition event will start around 12:45 p.m. at Hayden Abney Fulp Field inside Weisiger Stadium.
The Series:
This will be the fifth all-time meeting between Converse and Newberry dating back to the 2012 season. The Wolves hold a 3-1 record against the Valkyries, with the Valkyries last win coming in 2012 (17-4). The two teams have not met since the 2019 season, when the Wolves defeated the Valkyries 10-8 at Newberry. This will be just the second meeting in which the two squads have played in Spartanburg.
Converse Notes:
- The Valkyries are 0-9 overall this season and 0-4 in Conference Carolinas play. Converse is coming off an 15-10 loss to Erskine on Wednesday night.
- Cassidy O'Neill led the Valkyries offense once again with a four-goal performance against the Flying Fleet. Libby Stevens scored a pair of goals as well against Erskine.
- Converse is averaging 8.8 goals per game and 23.7 shots per game this season. The Valkyries have recorded 114 total ground balls, 62 caused turnovers, 105 draw control wins and have a 61 percent clear rate on the season.
- O'Neill leads the Valkyries offense with 26 goals scored this season, Brenna Everette is second on the team with 17 goals and Stevens is third on the team with 14 goals scored. Stevens leads the team with 12 assists and is tied with O'Neill for team lead in points with 24. Meanwhile, Everette leads the team in draw control wins with 35.
- Ciriaca Petitto leads the team in ground balls (31) and caused turnovers (12). Madalynn Brunner has started all nine games in goal for the Valkyries this season, Brunner has made 90 saves on 318 shots faced.
Newberry Notes:
- Newberry is 9-2 overall and 4-1 in South Atlantic Conference action.
- The Wolves are coming a 10-9 win over Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday evening. Chloe Wood led the team with a five-goal performance against the Bears.
- Newberry is averaging 13.45 goals per game and 30.45 shots per contest this season. The Wolves have recorded 204 ground balls this season, forced 95 turnovers, won 167 draw controls and have an 81 percent clear percentage.
- Chloe Wood leads the team in goals (49), points (59), total shots (81), shots on goal (70), free position goals (12) and draw controls (52). Cassell Richardson is second on the team with 24 goals, Marissa Plummer is third on the team with 20 goals, Heather Johnston has registered 12 goals and Adriana Hart has scored 10 times this season.
- Plummer leads the team in ground balls (25) and caused turnovers (12). The Wolves have started three different goalies this season, but Mack Dorr has played the most minutes in cage for Newberry. Dorr has made 44 saves on 140 shots faced.
