SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's golf team is in fourth place after the opening round of the 10
th annual Converse Spring Invite Presented by Founders FCU at the Carolina Country Club.
Sydney Grimes and
Phai Inpan both shot 79 on Monday afternoon as they helped the Valkyries to a 323 total team score. Grimes tied for the team lead with 12 pars on the afternoon, while Inpan tied for the team lead with a single birdie in the round.
Freshman
Brooke Haazer is currently tied for 25
th overall and is third on the team with an opening round score of 82.
Elizabeth Madden is a stroke back of Haazer with an 83 and
Katie Spurling rounds out the Valkyries starting five with an 87. Spurling led the Valkyries in Par 5 scoring by shooting one under on the day on Par 5 holes.
Individually,
Hailey Ellis is tied for 18
th overall after shooting an 80 in the opening round.
Emma Reid is tied for 52
nd place and
Sara Morden is tied 62
nd place after the first round on Monday.
