SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's golf team is in fourth place after the opening round of the 10^th annual Converse Spring Invite Presented by Founders FCU at the Carolina Country Club.
 
Sydney Grimes and Phai Inpan both shot 79 on Monday afternoon as they helped the Valkyries to a 323 total team score. Grimes tied for the team lead with 12 pars on the afternoon, while Inpan tied for the team lead with a single birdie in the round.
 
Freshman Brooke Haazer is currently tied for 25^th overall and is third on the team with an opening round score of 82. Elizabeth Madden is a stroke back of Haazer with an 83 and Katie Spurling rounds out the Valkyries starting five with an 87. Spurling led the Valkyries in Par 5 scoring by shooting one under on the day on Par 5 holes.
 
Individually, Hailey Ellis is tied for 18^th overall after shooting an 80 in the opening round. Emma Reid is tied for 52^nd place and Sara Morden is tied 62^nd place after the first round on Monday.
 
Round two of the Converse Spring Invite will start at 9:00 a.m. at the Carolina Country Club. A recap of the tournament can be found on govalkyries.com at the conclusion of each round.
