Valkyries Hit the Road for Coker Round Robin Tournament

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse softball team will play in their second tournament of the year this weekend. The team will travel to Hartsville, S.C. for the Coker Round Robin Tournament on February 18 and 19. Converse is set to play Flagler College and Coker University on both days.

The Series:
This will be the first time that Converse and Flagler have went up against each other while it will be the 10th and 11th times that Converse and Coker have faced each other. The Valkyries faced the Cobras last weekend in the Columbus State Tournament where they were defeated 10-2 by Coker.
 
Converse Notes:
  • The Valkyries are 0-10 this season after dropping a doubleheader to Edward Waters on Tuesday afternoon. In the first game, the Tigers pulled out a 9-3 victory, and in game two, they won again, this time by a score of 5-1.
  • In the two-game loss, Belle Roper led the Valkyries with two at-bats, one hit, one RBI, four innings pitched and three strikeouts.
  • Overall, Ryan Finazzo leads the team with 26 at-bats, three runs, six hits, two doubles, and four RBI's. Maggie Griffis also has 26 at-bats with six hits and four RBI's. Brooklyn McElrath leads Converse with the most at-bats (29) while Abbigale Outlaw leads in hist with eight on the season.
  • Serrah Ballard has pitched a team-high 22 innings with 10 strikouts while Reagan Owens has pitch 19.2 innings with 18 strikeouts.
Flagler Notes:
  • The Saints are 6-4 this season after most recently loosing 9-6 to Newberry on Sunday. In the loss, Salinas Mercedes led the team with 4 at-bats, one run, one hit and four RBI's. Rachel Hester (1-3) was given the loss after pitching 3.1 innings with one strikeout.
  • Overall, Paige Maseda leads the team with 34 at-bats, seven runs, 12 hits, four doubles, one triple and seven RBI's. Kyleigh Taylor follows her with 28 at-bats, six runs, seven hits, three homeruns and 11 RBI's.
  • Madelyn Wiser is the Saints leading pitcher with 36.2 innings pitched and 17 strikeouts. Rachel Hester follows her with 25.2 innings pitched with a team-high 21 strikeouts.
Coker Notes:
  • The Cobras are 4-6 this season after losing 13-10 and 3-0 to Mount Olive on Wednesday afternoon. In the losses, Chloe Pelham led the team with eight at-bats, four RBI's, four hits and two runs. Jordyn Goodman was given the loss in game one after pitching three innings and producing five strikeouts. Callie Thornton was given the loss in game two after pitching all seven innings with four strikeouts.
  • Kayla Oswell leads Coker with 31 at-bats, four runs, 12 hits, two doubles, one triple, two homeruns and 13 RBI's. Pelham follows her with 32 at-bats, eight runs, 14 hits, three doubles, one triple, three homeruns and nine RBI's.
  • On the mound, Thornton leads with 29 innings pitched and 18 strikeouts. She is followed by Isabelle Mullen who has pitched 16 innings, producing 15 strikeouts.
