Box Score 4 SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's and women's tennis programs had a busy first week of the season with eight total matches split between the two programs.
Both squads faced tough regional competitions against Limestone, Coker, Anderson and for the men's team a nationally ranked Lander squad yesterday afternoon. Although the Valkyries came up short as a team, individually several players had great matches.
Merlin Bellet went 3-1 with wins over Coker, USC Sumter and No. 8 Lander all at the No. 1 singles flight.
Paul Berrouet and
Cameron Davies both finished with a 2-2 record on the week at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles courts. On the doubles court Davies and
Gregoire Legrand teamed up for a 2-1 record, playing primarily at the No. 3 double court.
On the women's side
Marleen Prinz went 2-2 playing at both the No. 2 and No. 3 courts.
Tonya Glogowski-Watson and Maria Belen Vendrell both picked up wins at the No. 1 singles flight this week. In doubles action the Valkyries No.2 tandem of Prinz and Vendrell finished with a 2-2 record.
