Converse Picks up Road Win at Coker University

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Converse Valkyries acrobatics and tumbling team scored a 265.28 in their first away meet of the season to defeat the Coker Cobras who scored a 244.51.
 
The Valkyries move to 2-0, 2-0 Conference Carolinas while the Cobras fall to 0-1, 0-1 Conference Carolinas.
 
Event 1 – Compulsory
The compulsory event was the most competitive event between the two teams. Converse posted a 9.1 in acro, 9.8 in pyramid, 9.650 in toss and an 8.550 in tumbling which came out to be a running score of 37.100. Just trailing, the Cobras posted a running score of 36.650.
 
Event 2 – Acro
The acro event is where the Valkyries pulled ahead in the meet. In heat 3 of the event, Converse scored a 9.2 compared to Coker's 7.9. At the conclusion of the event, Converse had a 3.25-point advantage over Coker.
 
Event 3 – Pyramid
Converse's score of 9.850 in heat 3 of the pyramid event would be the highest heat score for the Valkyries and the meet. Outscoring the Cobras 28.950-26.900 in the event, the Valkyries would have a 94.400-89.100 lead going into halftime.
 
Event 4 – Toss
Starting the second half of the meet off strong, the Valkyries posted a 9.250 in the 450 Salto toss. The Cobras would not score above a 8.650 in the event, trailing 120.900-112.150 going into the tumbling event.
 
Event 5 – Tumbling
While the Valkyries would come out on top during the event, they did tie with the Cobras' score in the trio pass. Both teams scored a 7.650, however, Converse would lead by almost 10 points going into the final event of the afternoon.
 
Event 6 – Team
With a start value of 100.11, the Valkyries were up first. The team posted a score of 94.060, only having 6.05 in deductions. The Cobras start value was a 98.96, but they were only able to score an 82.560 in the event. In the end, the Valkyries would come out victorious with a final score of 265.285 compared to the Cobras' 244.510.

The Valkyries will be on the road again for their meet against Lander University on Wednesday, February 16 at 6:00 p.m.
