Valkyries Tennis Set for Busy Weekend in the Palmetto State

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's and women's tennis programs have a busy weekend ahead of them with matches against Coker, USC Sumter and Anderson University.
 
The Valkyries women's tennis team opened up the 2022 spring season with loss to Limestone on Thursday evening. Senior Maria Belen Vendrell (Buenos Aires, Argentina) picked up the Valkyries lone win of the day at the No. 1 singles court (6-1, 6-1) over Alexandra Dolfi. A quick turnaround for the Valkyries this weekend will help them improve upon their 1-1 record.
 
The Cobras women's tennis team is 1-3 this spring season with their lone win coming against Bluefield State last Saturday. Most recently the Cobras are coming off a 5-2 loss to Mount Olive on Tuesday evening. So far, the Cobras lone doubles win as come at the No. 3 doubles flight, while five different Cobras have picked up wins in singles action this season.
 
The Fire Ants women's tennis team is 0-1 this spring, following a loss to Benedict College on January 28th.
 
On Sunday afternoon the Valkyries will head over to Anderson to battle a 3-2 Trojans team. The Trojans women's program is coming off a 4-3 loss to No. 18 North Georgia on Wednesday afternoon. Anna Greer is the Trojans top player as she is ranked #49 nationally. Anderson's last win came against Catawba on Sunday afternoon when they swept the Indians 7-0.
 
The Valkyries men's tennis program is off to a hot start this season with a 2-1 record. The newly formed team made up of only freshman defeated both Limestone and Catawba back in the fall. The Valkyries lone defeat came down to the final court as they fell to Newberry 4-3 on October 26th. The men's spring season will kickoff tomorrow afternoon against Coker, USC Sumter and Anderson University on Sunday.
 
The Cobras men's tennis team is 0-4 this season and they are 0-3 against Conference Carolinas schools. Coker has lost to Barton, Newberry, Francis Marion and Mount Olive all within the past week, with their largest defeat coming against the Trojans on Tuesday afternoon. The Cobras top doubles tandems are both 2-1 this season with their No. 3 team holding an 0-2 record. In singles action Thibaut Decaluwe is the only player with a winning record (2-1).
 
The USC Sumter men's tennis program is 0-3 this season and they were most recently swept by Augusta University on February 1st.
 
The Anderson men's tennis team is 2-2 this season with their only wins coming against USC Sumter and Catawba College. In the Trojans most recent match, they lost 7-0 to #10 North Georgia. Anderson's No. 1 singles player Adam Kush was the only player to win a set against North Georgia, when he took the first set against the #2 player in the nation.
